从 displace 谈到老词新用法，人生啊就是学无止境

displace 这个词可不是什么高级词，古早就学过了呢，差不多就是 replace 的意思，比如：工厂的工人已逐渐被机器取代。（见文末答案区吧）

replace    v. 替代 = to take the place of    (前缀 re- "back, again" + place (v.) )

place    n. 地点    v. 放置

displace 用英文释义理解一下（你可以的）"remove to a different place, put out of the usual place; remove from any position, office, or dignity,"

哎呀呀，所以，“流离失所的人”，“难民”，也就是说 refugee 含义就是 displaced person，呜呜被迫离开家乡，流落他乡。

dis- 是一个拉丁构词成分，有3种含义哦，也就是说，不同的词中含义不一样，所以不要只记一个然后发现理解不了啦：

"lack of, not" (as in dishonest);

缺乏 lack of 诚信的/ 不 not 诚实的 = dis- + honest

"opposite of, do the opposite of" (as in disallow);

disallow :refuse to declare valid. //"the judge disallowed his evidence"

想想 allow 不就是“给某人许可”的意思嘛，give (someone) permission to do something

"apart, away" (as in discard);

discard 其实本意是“出掉的牌”，literally "to throw a card away," 延伸意思就是个有点忧桑的词了，大概就是“不要了”、“抛弃了”，物品和人都可以是 discard 的对象……

所以猜猜 displace 的 dis- 是哪个含义呢？

但是最近看文章，又发现新用法（语言学习就是这样，永远都没有尽头😭，原来我们从牙牙学语到听说读写流畅居然是积累了这么多，又理所当然了）。

原文是今年8月发生在黎巴嫩（Lebanon）首都贝鲁特（Beirut）的爆炸，造成了203人死亡，6500人受伤，30万人流离失所。维基百科的词条是这样的：

On 4 August 2020, a large amount of ammonium nitrate stored at the port of the city of Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, exploded, causing at least 203 deaths, 6,500 injuries, and US$15 billion in property damage, and leaving an estimated 300,000 people homeless.

黎巴嫩 Lebanon 的地理位置大概是这样的（国旗未标示区域内所有国家，且大小不计，此图仅示意）：

话说事件发生后，法国总统马克龙（France President Emmanuel Macron）在8月6日去黎巴嫩了。哎？为啥法国总统去啊？这里又插入一段历史渊源：

When the Ottoman empire was split up by European powers after the First World War, France was given a mandate to run Lebanon and Syria. 第一次世界大战（Jul 28, 1914 – Nov 11, 1918）结束后，黎巴嫩在法国托管下度过了25年。鉴于奥斯曼帝国已经解体，国际联盟（Société des Nations）也就是现在的联合国前身，通过英国和法国在1916年秘密签署的《赛克斯—皮科特协定》（accords Sykes-Picot）将伊拉克和当今的巴勒斯坦划归给英国。由于文化和历史上的原因，法国则要求拥有叙利亚和黎巴嫩。

马克龙是这么说的（引用自《纽约时报》8月6日报道）：

“I see the emotion on your face, the sadness, the pain,” he told one group, speaking of the deep historic ties between their countries, which go back to when Lebanon was under a French mandate. “This is why I’m here.”

这里这个 historic 又可以插入个知识点了（思路要跟上啊同学们）

名词 history（历史）变身形容词的时候有两种形式：historic 和 historical，有什么区别呢？一句话就明白了：

A historic event is one that was very important, whereas a historical event is something that happened in the past.

算了，拿个小本本总结一下就是：

historic adj. 历史上著名（或重要）的；有历史意义的 important or likely to be important in history
historical adj. 历史的；有关历史的

所以两国之间深厚的历史渊源，可得用 deep historic ties 啊。

同时，Macron 也做出了承诺（引用自《纽约时报》8月6日报道）：

He vowed to marshal aid for the displaced, and promised that it would “not go to corrupt hands,” an indirect dig at Lebanon’s politicians.

此处，用 the displaced 就是指因为爆炸而导致家园被毁，流离失所背井离乡的人们。终于提到 displace 的第二个释义了：

displace sb : to force people to move away from their home to another place 迫使（某人）离开家园

eg. Around 10 000 people have been displaced by the fighting. 大约 1 万人因战争而背井离乡。

the + 形容词（adjective）的搭配形式很眼熟吧？高中学过呢，比如 the old 老年人。差不多就这么理解，别再细究分词形容词啥的了，the displaced 就指的是流离失所的这些人。
