Nice sentence:

  1. (发达国家因为经济转型切断碳排放与经济同向变化的关系)More rich countries have severed the link between economic growth and rising emissions of greenhouse gases. They manage to increase their GDP while reducing their emissions. Because wealthy places are changing their economic structure, and expanding their service sectors, which use less energy than manufacturing. Take Britain-the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution-as an example, the vast majority of its output is now generated by accountants, shopping assistants and other service workers. That reduces the energy intensity of growth.
  2. (为什么会提出不增长主义)Since the fossil-fuel age began, living standards and emissions have risen hand in hand. Coal, then oil, and natural gas, all brought prosperity while also raising global temperatures. This link has led a degrowth compaign-reducing the pace of improvements in overall prosperity, or reversing them altogether-would avoid the worst effects of climate change.
  3. (发展新能源是另外一个解决之道)There are big gains to be had from making energy greener. Thanks to investment in renewables and greater electrification, such gains could soon be realised. That might boost long-term growth: an economy, which must scrimp and save to conserve energy, is less dynamic than one whose power is green, abundant and cheap.
