【Problem】

 Indian astronomers used three major trigonometric ratios: “jya” (sine), “koti-jya” (cosine), and “utkrama-jya” (versine). The versine is defined as 

versin(%5Ctheta)%20%3D%201%20-%5Ccos%20%5Ctheta

Determine the equivalent expression of the versine in terms of sine.

It is known that

versin(%5Ctheta)%20%3D%201%20-%5Ccos%20%5Ctheta

Since

%5Csin%E2%81%A1%20%5Cfrac%7B%5Ctheta%7D%7B2%7D%3D%5Csqrt%7B%5Cfrac%7B1-%5Ccos%20%5Ctheta%7D%7B2%7D%7D

it follows that

1-%5Ccos%E2%81%A1%20%5Ctheta%3D2%20%5Csin%5E2%E2%81%A1%20%5Cfrac%7B%5Ctheta%7D%7B2%7D

Therefore,

versin(%5Ctheta)%3D2%20%5Csin%5E2%20%5Cfrac%7B%5Ctheta%7D%7B2%7D
