This was my second visit to the Warriors and both times I was simple awed at the warriors and their story. It’s a must do if you are in Xian and actually it’s a must do if you have any interest in history. We actually flew from Australia just to visit the warriors.

Handy hint:- make sure you pick the times you visit. Our tour guide was saying on one day last year they had 124,000 people visit the warriors. This must have been super crowded and simply awful.

There are plenty of souvenir shops and food stores both Chinese and Western, at the end of the walk through the museum. They don’t take western credit cards so make sure you have cash.

I did not enjoy the pressure of a schedule as part of a group and rushing around. If I were to do it again, I would pay extra and hire a private car and driver. There are plenty of signs in English (Tourism is the focus along with revenues). The guides earn a commission on purchases made by members of tour groups - heard this chat at the gift shop as I understand Mandarin.

The excavation is a lifetime permanent national project in China, so there is time to go, be brave and plan carefully. Can do without Chinese language knowledge. From Xi''''an it is several hours drive so you are investing a long day anyway. If you are interested in the history and story of the discovery, buy a good book and read in depth in comfort first, then launch out and enjoy the journey.

By the way, if you just want to see some terracotta warriors up close for free, go to the ShaanXi History Museum in Xian. But visitors are limited there so get there early and be prepared to wait in line.
对了，如果你只是想免费近距离看一些兵马俑，可以去西安的陕西历史博物馆。不过那里有游客数量限制，所以要早点去，做好排队的准备。

Since visiting the touring terracotta army in Liverpool last year I have dreamt of seeing the real thing and wasn''''t disappointed. If you can shut out the hoards of fellow tourists the terracotta army is an awe inspiring sight, that is somehow quite moving. Each warrior has a different face and the horses are stunningly serene. The warriors seem to exude a feeling of melancholy strength. With thousands of warriors still to excavate the exhibit can only get better. Will they ever enter the mausoleum and open it up to the public? Maybe they shouldn''''t as it adds to the mystery. One of the farmers that discovered the warriors in the seventies now meets and greets tourists in the hope of selling a book. The terracotta warriors are definitely one of the wonders of the world. Amazing!
