Here comes the Weekly Chinese Idiom-“shuidishichuan”
Literally, shuǐ means water,dī means dripping, and shí chuan mean cutting through a stone. The combination of the whole phrase“shuǐ dī shí chuān"is equal to the saying in the west that constant dripping wears away a stone.
Integrated into an idiom, the four characters demonstrate the power of perseverance and p
persistence, which will contribute to achieving a challenging or seemingly unlikely objective. This idiom has a far-reaching impact on me, not only encouraging me to stick to my goal even in adversity with continuous efforts, but also convincing me that all the efforts are worthwhile and will pay off one day.
某英文杂志开设“一周一成语”专栏向外国读者介绍中国成语。请你用英语写一篇短文投稿,介绍成语锲而不舍。内容包括:
1.解释字面意思;2.阐释道理。
Frankly speaking, the idiom“锲而不舍” is one of my favorite expressions in Chinese, which has helped me go through many tough days.
The character“锲” 'is a verb meaning carving with knife and“不舍”is an adverbial with a vaguely similar meaning in English:diligently and consistently. The four characters were put together by our wise ancestors and then a philosophy of handling matters when facing life challenges was born.“锲而不舍”tells us that we are not supposed to cave in under the seemingly unsolvable problems but to fight against them with faith.
Hope you like this week's Chinese idiom as I do.
