About the project
PhD Positions in Inorganic Chemistry
The Functional Coordination Chemistry Laboratory (Bezdek Group) at ETH Zurich has fully-funded PhD positions.
Our newly established group applies the tools and approaches of inorganic/organometallic chemistry to synthesize molecules and materials with stimuli-responsive (sensory) and catalytic function. The targeted chemistry spans transition metal/main group complexes, metallopolymers and carbon nanomaterials.
Job description
The foci of the PhD projects are to:
1.Design and execute new synthetic routes to coordination complexes, organometallics, metallopolymers and carbon allotrope-inorganic hybrids.
2.Gain insight into the electronic structures, magnetic/thermochemical properties of newly synthesized materials using a suite of spectroscopic techniques (NMR, EPR, IR, Raman, XPS, Mössbauer, MCD), crystallography (single-crystal, powder) and electrochemistry.
3.apply the materials as catalysts and as active sensing elements for the degradation and detection of environmental pollutant gases. Target analytes of particular interest are those relevant to sustainable agriculture.
Throughout the course of the projects, students will gain proficiency in synthesizing and characterizing organic/inorganic molecules and polymers, in addition to acquiring hands-on experience in sensor device fabrication and testing. Consequently, students will bring multiple areas of expertise to bear in order to solve problems and will receive a highly multidisciplinary education.

Your profile
We are looking for someone with a M.Sc. degree or equivalent in chemistry, materials science or related area and a background in synthetic chemistry. Any previous experience in air- and moisture-free manipulations (ie. Schlenk technique, glovebox operations) and in the characterization of metal complexes is an advantage but not essential.
Above all, we are seeking highly motivated and enthusiastic scientists who thrive in collaborative working environments, who enjoy taking on challenges, learning new skills, critical thinking and problem solving. Fluent communication skills in English (oral and written) are essential, as is a willingness to work as part of a highly interactive, international, and diverse team.
The PhD positions are fully funded for four years (extendable) with a competitive salary according to ETH standards. The targeted starting date is September 1, 2022 but is flexible and can be adjusted upon mutual agreement.

PI简介
顾博士现为德国马克斯•普朗克科学促进协会下属心肺研究所独立PI，主要从事大数据分析，表观遗传学机制探索及其在疾病和生物发育过程中的作用。顾博士于2013年在德国癌症研究中心，海德堡大学获得博士学位，2014年至2018年在哈佛医学院进行博士后训练，并于2019年晋升为讲师。顾博士长期从事表观遗传学领域的研究，综合运用生物信息学，分子生物学，生物化学，细胞生物学等技术方法，在以下几个方面展开研究：
（1）新技术的研发（nature protocols, 2013，bioinformatics, 2014 (引用超过1500））
（2）表观遗传学机理在癌症发生和转移中的探索(nature genetics, 2015，nature communications, 2022)
（3）表观遗传学机理在隔代遗传发育中的作用的探索 (molecular system biology, 2016, cell reports, 2021)
（4）新型dna/rna甲基化 (cell, 2015)及其相关酶(cell discovery, 2020; cell research, 2020) 的鉴定由于顾博士多元化的学术背景，使其在团队合作上也是经验丰富，与国内和国际合作者开展多项高质量的科研工作，并且发表在nature，cell，nature genetics, nature medicine，cancer cell，cell stem sell等各种顶级学术期刊。截止2021年11月，顾博士的谷歌学术总引用次数将近6千，h-index达到25。由于出色的学术研究，顾博士也成功获得多项NIH和哈佛医学院的经费支持，以及国家层面的荣誉，具体包括：
1. 由留学基金委（csc）颁发的中国杰出自费留学生奖学金（chinese government award for outstanding self-financed students abroad），2013，（全球大约500人）

香港理工大学生物医学工程系谭又华教授研究组招收博士生，实验室拥有完备的实验装置，主要聚焦研究病理状态下力学因素对肿瘤转移的影响，促进基于生物物理/力学视角的癌症治疗方法的更新及开发，2023年1月入学。

香港理工大学生物医学工程系谭又华教授致力于生物、物理及医学交叉领域的研究，主要研究方向：力学生物学，力学-肿瘤学及肿瘤干细胞，实验室将为研究者提供一流的研究平台及充足的经费支持，且与世界一流的实验室及pi合作，入选者将在力学-疾病这一新兴前沿领域获得严格的科研训练，开展处于前沿领域的基础科学研究，将为博士后提供宽松及独立研究的机会（包括选题、基金申请及与其他优秀团队的合作等）。
实验室简介
肿瘤转移中有大量力学因素的参与，而且力学信号影响细胞的生命活动，但是它们对肿瘤细胞功能及转移的作用尚不清楚。本实验室主要聚焦研究病理状态下力学因素对肿瘤转移的影响，促进基于生物物理/力学视角的癌症治疗方法的更新及开发，近年来在国际顶尖刊物上发表多篇论文，包括nature materials, nature communications, nano letters, bioactive materials, acta biomaterialia, acs applied material and interfaces, biophysical journal等。
