2023年上半年四六级汉译英练习：沟通的艺术

背景：除了中国文化特色之外，常见的人文话题也是不定期出现的四六级考点。

目的：学会有关沟通常见的词汇。

Directions: Translate the following passage into English

        沟通是一种能力，一门智慧，更是一门艺术。语言作为人与人之间的沟通方式，是打开内心世界的窗口，是窥探他人内心世界的一道亮光，也是一个人了解另一个人最有用的方式。俗话说，良言一句三冬暖，恶语伤人六月寒。语言可以治愈人心，也可以让人的心灵受到创伤。一个人的说话方式，可以看出这个人的思想水平和文化内涵；一个人的说话态度，可以看出这个人的人品和修养；一个人说话的内容，可以看出这个人是一个什么样的人，是人生阅历和涵养的体现，会讲话的人，会考虑别人的处境和感受，在言语之间，透露出品行和教养，体贴和细心。

简析：

1- 窗口：这里windows并不特别能直接表达出通往的含义，另一个词汇表达窗口的是gateway，可以体现出“通道”层面含义的窗口，这里使用了gateway

2- 探寻：probe into / delve into，前者是大学阶段常见的词汇，如：probe deeper（《新一代大学英语》基础篇2-综合教程-Unit 1），继续深探，probe into：探寻……的奥秘，更深地理解某事。

3- 良言一句三冬暖，恶语伤人六月寒：这是一句谚语，网上一直没有一个标准参考版本。有些写的可以借鉴（但是也不够完美）：

 1）Good words warm like a fire in the cold winter, while bad words hurt like snowing in summer. （网络参考版相对接近含义的，但是snowing in summer体现的真的很接近吗？）

 2）Comforting words will melt a frozen heart while harsh words can break a warm heart like a cold winter.（自制）

 *这句话的难处是“三冬暖、六月寒”的境界翻译，同时不显得冗余。

4-思想水平和文化内涵，人品和修养，人生阅历和涵养要如何翻译？

 1）文化内涵多用cultivation，思想水平可以使用Level of mind，这个词代表“心智水平”或者“思想境界”

 2）人品修养多用quality和morality，有关道德

 3）人生阅历是life experience，而涵养网上给出很多参考是self-restraint，这个词更接近“自我约束”的表达，和“涵养”的意思还有些差距。这里使用了courtesy，表示“礼貌、礼节”，这个词汇个人认为更接近，*大家有不同想法的欢迎提出。

5- 展现出来：be manifested from / through。有一句话的官方翻译如下：

 困难方显勇毅、磨砺始得玉成：

 Only through tough times can courage and preseverance be manifested.

        Communication is a skill, a wisdom also an art. As a way connecting people, communicating is the gateway towards the world inside others, a shed of light probing into their worlds inside also the most helpful way to know each other. There is a widely-known saying: "Comforting words will melt a frozen heart while harsh words can break a warm heart like a cold winter." Words one speaks can either cure or break a heart. The way you speak reflects your level of mind and cultivation, the attitude you speak tells your quality and morality, and what you speak exhibits your personality, life experience and courtesy. Good communicators will think from the situations and feelings of their partners, their characters, personalities, love and care for others will be manifested through / from every sentence of their speeches.
