  • Broad money is measured by counting money kept by banks and people.          broad money 广义货币


  • Under capitalised means it has too little money to be able to develop.

  • The base rate is used to decide how much to charge for lending money.                    base rate 基准利率

    Example:

    My mortgage rate is always 1% higher than the bank base rate.

  • Disposable income is the money (income after taxes)which you can spend as you want and not on basic needs. 

    Disposable Income 个人可支配收入(税后收入)

    Example:

    Due to a recent salary rise, I now have quite a lot of disposable income.

  • The fixed assets of a business are things of value such as buildings.                          fixed assets 固定资产

    Example:

    Most of the value of the company is tied up in fixed assets, such as the shops.


  • The extra money paid to someone because their job is dangerous is called danger money.

  • An overdraft facility is an agreement between a bank and customer which allows the bank account to be temporarily allowed to owe to the bank.                                  overdraft facility 透支贷款

    Example:

    As we sometimes have a cash flow problem, we have agreed an overdraft facility with our bank.

  • Factory gate prices are the prices which a factory sells its goods for.                        factory gate price 出厂价


  • A copper-bottomed investment can be trusted completely because it is certain to succeed.

  • A champagne socialist spends money wastefully but claims to support a fair society.

    Example:

  • A bridging loan is what a bank lends to you until you can get the money from somewhere else.

  • A blank cheque has been signed but does not yet have the amount of money written on it.

  • A clearing bank exchanges cheques with other banks.

  • A down payment is an amount of money which is only part of the total cost.         down payment 首付款;预付金

    Example:

    I've made a $100 down payment on a new 42” Plasma Screen TV.

  • A credit squeeze is when it is difficult to borrow money from banks.                        credit squeeze 信贷紧缩


  • A bounced cheque is one which has not been accepted by a bank because of a lack of money in the account. 

    Bounced Cheque 支票跳票;开空头支票

    Example:

    The bank made me pay a penalty of $10 for a bounced cheque.

  • A $50 gift token can be exchanged in a shop for goods of that value.

    gift token 礼券

    Example:

    When Peter retired, we collected money from his colleagues and gave him a $500 gift token.
