The twenty-second book that I have finished reading this year is Kate Hoefler (author) and Corinna Luyken’s (illustrator) “nothing in common”. This illustration book that I found in the war children museum in Sarajevo unfolds a story about two children who had nothing in common, except their mutual care for an old man who was separated from his dog. Together, they embark on a journey to search for the man’s animal companion, discovering more commonalities they had imagined. Overall, it’s a short and sweet book suitable for children to read, teaching children to befriend others who may seem different from them. Being in the museum, it also contrasts with the constricted childhood of children in war, encouraging children in peaceful settings to cherish what they already have.
