在目的状语从句中，从句部分是用以说明主句中谓语动词发生的目的，引导目的状语从句的常见连词主要分为两类：


1). in order that / so (that)引导目的状语从句，翻译成“以便，为了”；

He studied hard in order that he could pass the exam.

I will pass the test in order that I can travel abroad.

Please speak slowly so (that) they can understand you.

Bring it closer so (that) I might see it better.


2). in case / for fear that引导的目的状语从句；

in case的意思是“以防，万一”，for fear that的意思是“生怕，唯恐”；

You should have a talk with your mother in case she worries about you.

Write the telephone number down in case you forget it.

He left an hour early for fear that he might miss the train.

He wrote the name down for fear that he should forget it.


3). 目的状语从句与in order to / so as to引导的动词不定式之间的转换；

实际上，in order to / so as to是in order that / so that的简化版，将that从句简化成不定式短语。

He got up early so that he could catch the early bus.

= He got up early so as to catch the early bus.

He came in quietly in order that he shouldn't(不会) wake his wife.

= He came in quietly in order not to wake his wife.


★★ 注意：so that 引导的目的状语从句与结果状语从句的区别：

在目的状语从句中，谓语常含有should, will, would, may, might, can, could等情态动词；

在结果状语从句中，一般不含情态动词；

I always read so carefully that I can make everyone understand me. (目的状从)

I always read so carefully that I make everyone understand me. (结果状从)

We are cleaning our classroom so that we will have a better study condition. (目的状从)

We cleaned our classroom so that we got a better study condition. (结果状从)
