第八节 英语的被动句可译成汉语的被动或主动结构

1. His entire adult life had been consumed by the intoxication and compulsion of

gamblingaway hundreds of thousands of dollars on everything from online poker to

sports.

他成年后的整个人生都是在狂赌带来的亢奋和冲动中挥霍掉的，从网上扑克到

体育比赛赌了个遍，共输掉了几十万美元。

2. The most recent survey showed Jordanese disapproval dropping to 80 percent, but

Pew's 2005 study of global attitudes was still titled “US image up slightly, but still

negative”.

但是皮尤研究所 2005 年关于全球态度的研究报告仍沿用了这样的标题：“美国

形象略有提升，但仍然是负面的”。

它们被冠以国内最危险的野兽之一的名分可不是闹着玩的。

这句当中，“was accounted”是被动式，也是英文里常有的用法，例如“was

recognized” “was acclaimed”“was acknowledged”“was regarded”，可译成“堪

称”“有……之称””享有…之誉”“众人视为”。
