这样做有好处也有坏处。如果对方察觉到了你的感谢，也会表达自己感谢，这样就形成了亲密关系的正循环。反之，看不到现实，一味按照书本的理想世界，假想一切都是为了自己好，最后受伤的也可能是自己。在这篇故事中，Lord Fauntleroy 进入了正循环。进入负循环的人，会被称为斯德哥尔摩综合征患者。

斯德哥尔摩综合征可以被看作是一种创伤羁绊，不一定只发生在人质身上，只要加害者对被害者实施骚扰，都可能使被害者对加害者产生强烈的情感。根据弗洛伊德的理论，斯德哥尔摩综合征是一种自我防卫机制，当受害者相信加害者的想法时，他们会觉得自己不再受到威胁。斯德哥尔摩综合征并非正式精神疾病名词。斯德哥尔摩综合征更倾向是人们用来掩盖不想讨论问题的假想状态。——维基百科
