今天本课讨论的是 ACCENT

ACCENT：the way in which people in a particular area, country or social group pronounce words

其实就是在一个特定的区域，他们对语音的一种特殊的发音方式

大家是否记得，就在 “539 Johnny Depp - Edward Scissorhands”这一课，我们刚碰到了 ACCENT这个词的 VERB to emphasize something

这一课我们可以学到： Learning about different cultures and accents may help to to communicate more efficiently.

properly: in a correct way

第二条我们可以学到的是：Learning accents can help yhou connect with other cultures

engage with sb: means to establish a meaning ful connection with them

这个词 我们可能更多用到的是 engage in: to take part in something

第三条我们可以学到的是：Accent is not a measure of intelligence

intelligence: the ability to understand and learn well and to form judgments and opinions based on reason

第四条我们可以学到的是：Accents should be used respectfully

speak down to: when sb talks in an overly simple way or change the way they speak which suggests that the listener is not intelligent. (有点认为受听者智商不那么高的改变说话方式的方法）

patronize: to speak to or behave towards someone as if they are stupid or not important (还是高高在上，瞧不起的态度）

mixed family: （两个含义-重点）1. family member from diffferent racial groups. mixed family 也可以意思是

2. blended family：a family that consists of two people and their children from their own relationship and from previous ones 新组合到一起的，chilren

You know: 1. Gives other people the idea that you have some kind of shared knowledge with them （你说的事你知道听者可能都已经知道了）

2. You want to know if you agree with them

3.A filler (停顿作用）gives the speaker time to think of what to say next (这一条大家可以多用一下）

第五条我们可以学到的是：Try to expose yourself to as many different accents as possible

hybird: mix of two different things

generation: 1. all the people of about the same age within a society or within a particular family

2.noun of generate, means the production of energy in a particular form | electricity generation

Don't act smart! They demand you stop acting so bold or rude. They think you know more about sth than they do.
