Quaint Epitaph——古雅英文墓志铭选（一）

1.

God takes the good too good on earth to stay,

上帝会带走好人——好到不能留在这里的好人，

God leaves the bad too bad to take away.

上帝会留下坏人——坏到只能留在这里的坏人。

2.

Sixteen years a Maiden,

渡过十六年的花季，

One twelve Months a Wife,

做过十二月的人妻，

One half hour a Mother,

当了九十分的母亲，

And then I lost my Life.

然后我就离开人世。

3.

Here lies one More, and no More than he,

长眠于此的人又多了一位，他就这样没了，

One More, and no More! How can that be?

人多了一位，却又说他没了！怎么会这样？

Why one More and no More may well lie here alone,

为何人多了一位，却又说他没了，答案可能就长眠于此，

But here lies one More, and that’s More than one.

但长眠于此的人多了一位，而长眠于此的人不只他一位。

4.

My wife she’s dead, and here she lies,

我老婆死了，就埋在这里，

There’s nobody laughs, and nobody cries;

没有人欢笑，没有人哭泣，

Where she’s gone, and how she fares,

她去了哪里，过得怎么样，

Nobody knows, and nobody cares.

没有人知道，没有人在意。
