Last week, disgruntled employees working at Wistron’s Indian plant, a company that mainly produces iPhones in India, vandalized the plant’s offices and caused significant damage to property. Today, according to a new report, thousands of iPhones were also stolen at the riots causing total losses of Rs. 437 Crores ($59 Million) as per a preliminary financial assessment. A final figure will be released upon completing an uation of total losses.

Indian companies also have a long standing practice of offering ridiculously low bids to win business with big corporations then “work out” the details later. I have seen this many times in the US. I suspect some of that is going on here. They couldn’t cover all their costs so they just shorted the workers and hoped no one would notice.

We really need to start taxing the fuck out of imports of products made by American-based companies in foreign countries. America has some damn good labor laws when you're comparing it to places like India or China, and maybe we don't give our workers half the year off and double their salary whenever they get knocked up like Germany or Canada, but at least we pay people a little bit more than pennies on the dollar.
