第八章

暗爪来到新鲜猎物堆，留下一只松鼠。

“夜族的猫！”白星宣布，“让所有年龄足够大到来捕捉自己捕捉猎物的猫加入到长崖下面的部族会议。”

“我要决定哪些猫会去森林大会。”白星喵着：“灰心、斑耳、雪叶、火足、雪脸、霜暴、暗暴、豹爪、黄爪和白爪。”

“白星，我也可以去吗？”暗爪小声地喵着。

“不，我们需要隐藏我们的弱点，我不会让其他族群知道我们的一个学徒死了。”

“我们可以假装她失踪了，或者她只是……只是在和斑耳训练。”

“是的，白星。这是她作为学徒的第一次森林大会。”灰心赞同了。

“那好吧。你可以去，但别提你死去的妹妹。”白星叹了口气。

暗爪跟着灰心，不愿意这么快就交朋友。等等，日星在哪？

“让我先开始。”涟漪星喵道：“沼泽族的猎物很好。自从干旱以来，我们有了更多的猎物。我们的两只幼崽已经成为了学徒，雕爪和泥爪。”

“雕爪！泥爪！”

“我负责，因为日星病了，不过她很快就会康复。自从干旱以来，日族的猎物减少了，但我们都有足够的食物和水。”橡条喵道。

“水族并没有受到干旱的影响。但是月突然出现了，还有夜族的亮爪，带走了雨爪。他们说是星族的东西，要把雨带回来。是真的吗，白星？请你解释一下？”水星礼貌地问道。

“月？”年轻的战士和学徒们惊讶地问。

“那是谁？”

“抓学徒的恶霸猫？”

“安静！”水族老者栗簇吼道。“月是一只智慧的狐狸，会说猫的语言。他帮助我们在森林里定居，并引导我们组建族群，找到星族。”

“是的，我们必须尊重他，相信他在为我们做好事。”暗暴同意说。

栗簇盯着暗暴，眼里充满了仇恨。为什么这些长者如此多过结？暗爪只希望每只猫都能和平地生活和交流，但实际上这是不可能的。

“夜族也有了新的学徒，亮爪、黄爪和白爪。暗崽和亮爪从营地逃跑了一会儿，暗崽告诉我们她的妹妹被怪物杀死了。然后我们让暗爪和豹爪当学徒。现在水星已经开口了，我不再认为亮爪已经死了。暗爪，你能解释一下发生了什么事吗？”白星喵道。

“月绑架了亮爪吗？”蓝牙问道，她的眼睛里充满了忧虑。

Chapter8

Darkpaw paddled to the fresh-kill pile, leaving a squirrel.

“Cats of Nightclan!" Whitestar announced."Let all those cats old enough to catch their own prey join here beneath Longledge for a Clan meeting." 

"I'm going to decide which cats will go on the geathering."Whitestar mewed,"Grayheart, Patchear, Snowleaf, Firefoot, Snowface, Froststorm, Darkstorm, Leopardpaw, Yellowpaw, and Whitepaw."

"Whitestar, may I go too?" Darkpaw mewed quietly.

"No, we need to hide our weakness, we won't let the other clans know that one of our apprentices died."

"We could pretend she's missing, or she's just……training with Patchear."

"Yes, Whitestar. It's her first gathering as an apprentice."Grayheart agreed.

"Okay, then. You may go, but don't say anything about your dead sister."Whitestar sighed.

She's not dead! Darkpaw shivered. Why do every cat believe that Brightpaw is dead! Why did I lie to them?

"Finish your thrush quickly and prepare to set off!" mewed Grayheart.

The Fourstones seemed smaller than Darkpaw imagined, only big enough for the leaders to sit on. The deputies and medicine cats sit beside the leaders. Yellowpaw and Leopardpaw soon joined the SunClan and WaterClan apprentices. Whitepaw was chatting with her brothers.

Darkpaw followed Grayheart, not willing to make friends so soon.Wait, where's Sunstar?

"Let me start first." Ripplestar mewed,"The prey is running well in MarshClan. We've got more prey since the drought. And two of our kits have made apprentices, Eaglepaw and Mudpaw."

"Eaglepaw! Mudpaw!"

"I'm in charge because Sunstar is sick, she'll recover soon. SunClan's prey has decreased since the drought, but we all have enough to eat and drink. " mewed Oakstripe.

"WaterClan hasn't been influenced by the drought. But Moon appeared suddenly with Brightpaw from NightClan, taking Rainpaw away. They say it's StarClan businness, to bring the rain back. Is that true, Whitestar? Would you please explain that?" Waterstar asked politely.

"Moon?" the young warriors and apprentices gasped.

"Who's that?"

"A rouge who captures apprentices?"

"Silence!" growled Sorreltuft, a WaterClan elder."Moon is a wise fox which can speak cats' language. He helped us settle in the forest and guided us to form clans and reach StarClan."

"Yes, we have to respect him and believe that he's doing something good for us." Darkstorm agreed.

Sorreltuft stared at Darkstorm, eyes filled of hate. Why are these elders so in tense? Darkpaw only wished that every cat can live and communicate peacefully, but oviously it's impossible.

"NightClan have new apprentices too, Brightpaw, Yellowpaw and Whitepaw. Darkkit and Brightpaw ran away from camp for a while and Darkkit told us that her sister is killed by a monster. Then we made Darkpaw and Leopardpaw apprentices. Now that Waterstar has spoken, I don't think Brighpaw is dead any more. Darkpaw, would you explain what happened?"mewed Whitestar.

"Did Moon kidnap Brightpaw?" Bluefang asked, her eyes filled of worries.

Fox dung! What can I say now？Darkpaw hesitated for a second, "Ye,Yes. A fox speaking told us that his name is moon and he has to take Brightpaw away, or he will tear my face."

"Why do you lie to us?"Patchear seemed angry and surprised.

"Brightpaw told me to! She doesn't want us to search for her!"

"Enough!"roared Marigold, the MarshClan deputy. "This is a gathering, we mustn't argue!"In

In a few heartbeats, thin clouds covered the moon. Most of the cats look disappointed.

"At least, now we won't be worried about the drought!" Stormpaw mewed excitedly."I can't wait to see a REAL TALKING FOX! Bye, Leopardpaw! See you on the next gathering!"

"Goodbye, Stormpaw."Leopardpaw looked a bit sad.

Yellowpaw waved goodbye with Shellpaw and Silverpaw, than dragged Whitepaw, who was still laughing with her brothers.

Yeah, my first gathering, thought Darkpaw, a terrible one.
