牵手、联手、手拉手
法语的“joindre”和英语的“join”长得很象吧？其实，人家原来就是一家子：它们是同源词（cognates）.
同源词“joindre”和“join”意思看起来差不多，但它们是“假朋友”：小心上当！
先考考大家：法语里有“joindre les mains”的说法，这和英语里的“join hands”是一个意思吗？如果不是一个意思，英语和法语的“联手”分别对应上面哪张图呢？

法语的“joindre”和英语的“join”都可以翻译成汉语的“连（联）接”，这一般涉及三个因素：“A 联结 B 和 C”。这时法语“joindre”和英语“join”构成的句子有相同的结构，两者是同义词。
例如：
Un pont de trois kilometres joint l’île au continent.
A three-kilometre-long bridge joins the island to the mainland.
一座3公里长的桥把这个岛和大陆连接起来。（“A联结B和C”）
Joignes les points A et B pour obtenir un triangle.
Join points A and B to obtain a triangle.
连接A和B两点，即可得到一个三角形。（几何题吧？连接A，B两点的，是一条直线。^v^）
Il serait préférable de joindre les deux bouts de ficelle par un nœud plat.
It would be better to join the two pieces of string (together) with a reef knot.
最好把绳子的两头打一个平结。（打绳节的当然是人啦。“A联结B和C”）
法语反身动词“se joindre”还是“三个”因素：“A 联结 B 和 C”，只不过“B”和“A”是同一事物：自己把“自己”连接到某物上（和某事物联系，接触）。但译为英语“join”时，由于反身代词译不出来, 就变成了“两个”因素：
Çà et là, des enfants se joignaient à la procession.
Here and there children joined the procession.
不时有小孩子加入游行的队伍中来。
Nous espérons que vous vous joindrez à nous à l’occasion de notre mariage.
We hope you’ll join us on our wedding day.
希望你能来出席我们的婚礼。
Il se joignit à la discussion.
He joined in the discussion.
他参加了讨论。
Mon mari se joint à moi pour vous exprimer toute notre sympathie.
My husband joins me in expressing our deepest sympathy.
我丈夫和我一起向你表示最深切的同情。
法语的“（se）joindre”总是涉及3个因素: “A joindre B à C”，或者“A joindre B et C”，但很多时候，“joindre”不能译为英语的“join”。
例如：
Marie joint l’intelligence à la beauté.
Marie combines intelligence with beauty.
Marie她人又聪明又漂亮。
Faites un séjour linguistique en Écosse. Vous joindrez l’utile à l’agréable.
By taking a language course in Scotland you’ll combine business with pleasure.
来苏格兰参加语言培训班，学习和观光两不误。
Je joins un timbre (un chèque) pour les frais d’envoi.
I am enclosing a stamp (a cheque) to cover postage.
附上一张邮票（支票）以支付（回信，邮寄）的费用。
Veuillez joindre la pièce à conviction au dossier.

英语的“join”也可以连接两个东西：“A join B”，但此时要译为法语的“rejoindre”：

另外，英语的“join”还有“参加，加入”某组织，机构，事业，活动的意思，即：“A 成为 B 的一分子，一个成员”，此时, 法语一般不用“joindre”或“rejoindre”。
例如:
I joined the Labour Party (the club) in 2004.
Je suis devenu membre du parti socialiste/travailliste (du club) en 2004.
我2004年加入了工党（俱乐部）。
Their eldest son joined the Navy at the age of nineteen.
Leur fils aîné s’est engagé/enrôlé dans la marine à l’âge de dix-neuf ans.
他们的大儿子19岁就加入了海军。
Can’t you join the queue like everybody else, young man?
Vous ne pouvez pas faire la queue comme tout le monde, jeune homme ?
