36 Lesson 6 - Foolproof Photobashing Part 4 - Sunset Color

you’re back. Airi, you’ve just been showing us how to do a monotone color gradient. That’s not fun, that’s boring, I don’t want to look at that movie again. Jesse James by the coward, Robert Ford. I wanted to make it look more colorful, more pretty. well. Do not worry because I have the answer for you.

Let’s say that I wanna turn this piece, which is very much monotone into this. look at that. How in the world am I gonna get to that? Very good question? It's going to be the exact same way that we've been handling it. Except now instead of turning it more towards monotone, we turn it more towards pink. All right, let's get started.
P36 - 00:57现在开始把色彩高仿到夕阳西下。
The first thing is I'm going to strip away all the colors that I have added onto this piece originally.
P36 - 01:05去除掉原来剧照有的颜色。
So if we go into our dark, that's going to be here. So this right here is a multiply layer. I'm going to strip away this multiply as well.

So you can see that this was our original image. Pretty crazy where we started from, that is insane. And obviously I'm going to take away some of the things like the color touch UPS. I'm going to take away from the light en layers, like that, take away the dark in basically everything up here. I have to remove.

We're gonna try to get right back to where we originally started from. I’m also going to get rid of my two color lookup. So these are the two adjustments that we made on Top.

And so now we're basically arrived back at sub zero. not sub zero, but base zero is your neutral base, where episode five ended, essentially.

So I take my color reference, which is this. Well, just looking at this reminds me of like a fairy tale candy land. That is so so pretty.

the first thing we're gonna do is we ask ourselves, what color is it overall? It's going to be pink and purple.

I hope that is obvious. So I would take it by eye dropper tool. Select this purple right here on the snow, because I want my snow to be the same color as this.

Take this out. Make a swatch. All very standard stuff. You know this stuff already know. Now using this swatch, I go down to my lights.

So this is my original multiply layer. We're going to delete this,

make a new layer on Top of my lights, and multiply. And now we're going to paint bucket like that.

OK. Very cool. Perfect. Now my snow is the same colour as the snow. You can see that my blacks are still in place.

So if I take this out, then you'll be able to see that. Yes, all the snow is now in this color.

Cool. So for my blacks, my darks, I want to do the exact same thing. But if I look at this image here, my darks are going to be this patch right here. So it's tiny little swatch. Move it out, drag it out, put it over here.

It's going to take this, go to my darks. Because this is really light, I’m going to go into my levels. Make it brighter like that.

This was my original multiply layer from my previous section. But now I'm going to change it. Delete this,

add a new one, multiply layer on the Top. Oh, boy, that is super dark. So we're going to move this up a little bit, better and better and move this a little lighter.

And here’s the thing. We don't want it to be as light as this. The reason is because this here doesn't have much atmosphere. We need this to be really dark in the front.

So even though it's not as close to this, I'm happy as long as it's kind of colour shade towards that area.

So I'm going to make it a little bit darker, just so I can keep my depth because we need our black and white values to stand out.

Most important, get rid of those things and voila! That's the first step that we have done. That was so easy. Just how fast that we color coded that.

And now we're gonna make it even easier. Check out the sky right here. This is the sky color that I want for my sky as well.

But obviously our sky doesn't look like that, like at all. So we're gonna need to go find a sample of this sky.

I can't really take it from this here, because it's number one, a very grainy pixilated image. And number two, there's too much stuff in here.

So I'm just gonna go in and look for a good sky. I'll be right back. with the magic of editing.

I am back and I have found this sky. this is pretty darn close. I would say. it's not perfect, but it is basically there, honestly.

So here's the thing with special skies like this. Previously, our sky was just white like this. But now our sky needs to look like this.

So we're gonna do, we're actually going to select out the sky portion here. And we're gonna put this sky on top so that it's going to be at the very front of our image rather than the back.

So let me show you what that means.

Let’s go to the very Top. And let's say that I fill it in with this very strange purple color.

Now I take my sky. I drag it down.

And I'm just gonna go like this and drag the sky up like this, just like that.

Create clipping mask. Wow! Look at that affect.

As soon as you put the sky in, it starts to really set the mood for the entire piece overall,

bring this picture back and you can see that the sky and here is a little bit lighter. So what I'm gonna do it, I'm also going to put in that same kind of lightness.

And honestly, I just love these pink clouds. And here I just can't resist. But take some of these pink clouds.

Put them onto a lighten layer like that.

And just like that, I was basically able to replicate the sky pretty darn well, if I may say so myself.

So take this away and you can see that this is already affecting my entire piece heavily.

Now you're gonna notice something is that the sky is reflecting onto the water.

And so the water is the same color as the sky, whereas our sky is here.

But it is not the same color as the water.

This is a problem. We need to go in and completely take out this water.

That's going to mean that we're gonna have to go in and hand lasso tool out this stuff.

There's no getting around it. We're just gonna have to do it. Roll up those sleeves. Let's get to work. All right.

So now that everything is selected, we're going to go up to the Top,

just like we did our sky. And I'm just going to fill it in with say like this strange blue color.

So as you can see it pretty much covered everything in my water that is going to be need to be reflected off of the sky.

I copy of my sky layers. So this is my sky. I’m going to flip it vertical, just like that.

Stretch it out. It was nice about these sky is that they can be stretched pretty far and not much is going to happen to them.

And now I'm just gonna create clipping mask. Obviously it is not perfect just yet.

But look at that effect. isn't that not looking so good. I love this so much. I'm just gonna try give it a shot by putting it underneath my darks layer.

Putting it under my dark so that my darks will affect the water, just like it did originally,

but putting it above my multiply and lights layer, so that it can still show through completely.

This is a beautiful effect that we're having. It's obviously hiding a few things, such as red's reflection, that we can get to that easily later on.

This is not something that we have to really worry about. In fact, if you're really worried about it, we could honestly bring it up right back here and just make some a few adjustments accordingly.

But this is looking much better. Now it really feels like we're getting closer and closer to this image here. Now this image here, they also have this really strong yellow.

So I'm gonna go into my sky as well here and also add that really strong burst of yellow, like that pop going on here. Create clipping mask, overlay.

Same thing we did to our sky, instead overlay. I'm actually gonna go to color dodge.

And that is a beautiful affect. Very nice. Very nice. Now one thing is going to be a little bit strange, which is that typically, very typically in nature, things that are farther away are going to be lighter.

So typically, we would have these mountains be really light. But as you can see in our image here, the trees here are not that light.

Not to mention the fact that this mountain here is being back lit, which means the sun is really low in the sky. It's right behind the mountains.

So this is a case where the mountains would actually have to get darker, in order for us to make it feel as if, well, like the scene is being lit properly,

just like how you are seeing in this reference image here, we're trying to imitate this as best as we can.

And I would say. The best way would be to try to get the mountains to that color right there right there.

So without further ado, let's get cracking. Let's get those mountains that color.

So I'm literally just going to go to the multiply layer. That's right here on my lights.

And I'm gonna color in the mountains. However, these super for mountains over here, they can still be on the lighter side.

So we're gonna go to our lighten layer, as you can remember here. And oh, goodness, our lighten layer is kind of a no longer usable.
P36 - 12:14上次的锃亮调节层不能用了。
This is our previous lighten layer, If you remember, I'm just going to close it away. You know, No one needs to see it. I'm gonna control click the icon. And it gives me the selection of my previous lighten layer that I did for the other image. And now I don't really have to worry. I can just colour with this selection.

And now my mountains have that very nice beautiful glow.

All right, let's take a look at our reference image and ask ourselves what is next.

So I'm seeing that these the snow here is actually a little bit brighter. So I want to do the exact same thing to my snow here. I want the snow to be a little bit brighter,

I’m just go down to my multiply layer. And brighten it up.
P36 - 13:14多重层，点亮。
so now we'll take a look at our reference image and just ask ourselves a little bit more as to what can we do to make this feel more like this piece here?

Well, number one is that little red riding hood is now also going to be back lit, which means the sun rays are coming back from behind her, which means she needs to be a lot more darker this time.
P36 - 13:42小红帽背后被阳光点亮，雪暗点。
So I'm going to go in and select my little red like so and actually make her darker using the dark ’s layer mask.
P36 - 13:51暗黑层，让小红帽变暗。
We also know that there are a few items about her that I did not address in my lake. So I'm gonna go do that right now.

Photo bashing is always like this. You do stuff, you do stuff. And then you realize that, oh, shit. This is this little detail that I got to clean up. So you go back and clean it up.
P36 - 14:12遇到细节去及时处理。
Speaking of the lake, the lake is feeling a little bit too like picture perfect is way too pristine.
P36 - 14:19湖面有点波澜不惊死气沉沉。
Do you know what I mean? This is a great tip and trick. So you're going to double click this lake, double click it, and this is going to pop up.
P36 - 14:29双击湖面层，弹出对话框。
All right? And you're going to adjust the slider right here. This underlying layer means that whatever is underneath this layer, so the rocks of the water, then you can hide it if it's going to be darker.
P36 - 14:44暗黑隐藏湖面下暗礁。
So for example, let me show you, so this way. It hides all of the dark parts like that.
P36 - 14:51移动滑块，隐藏阴影部分。
Or you go to the opposite way. And it hides all of the light parts.
P36 - 14:57反之，隐藏锃亮部分。
So it only keeps the dark. So what can we use this for? Well, if we slide this up. Like that. We can use this to be able to get a really nice natural progression for our rocks.

But obviously, I'm not going to click yes now because you can see that all of this stuff is also lost, which is not what I want.

So I have to be really smart about this. I'm gonna make a copy of this like so. And then I'm going to merge this down, merge layers into one flat layer.

So as you can see, this is now a new Complete separate layer. Top layers here. Open my bottom layer again. Go down here. Double click underlying layer just make it so that. It this is a pretty good amount. click Ok.

Go to your Top layer. So it fills out this Top part.
P36 - 16:04填满顶层。
And then you take your layer mask, go to black.

And gently take out these parts areas right here. And then when you get this kind of a nice progression.

Just what it feels a little bit more natural. You know. So it doesn't feel like such a clean break. Do you know what I mean? So now the water doesn't feel so crystal perfect.

Now for next steps is a few things I wanna do. So we're going to bring up our game plan. Do you remember this? This was our game plan from the previous image. So we're going to make a new game plan.

We're going to use pink. And that kind of pink when everything match it’s colors.
P36 - 16:50粉色主题色。各元素要匹配。
All right. So the first thing I wanna do is number one, I need to lighten some of these areas right here.

You see how this is starting to get the same kind of value? Again, the same problem as these rocks right there. So these feel a little bit too close.
P36 - 17:07岩石太黑，有点逼近，不真实。
So I'm gonna have to go in with a lighten layer later on. I went dark in this entire area because you see my sun is coming here. Therefore this area should be pretty light in that area should be a little bit darker.
P36 - 17:20半江瑟瑟半江红。
I also want, of course, my focus to be on little red. Therefore this area being lighter and a little red being a little bit darker, it is only going to serve me well,

the next thing I wanna do is take my darkest layer and get rid of these things again. Previously we did that, but now we basically have to do it one more time and again.

So those are the things that I'm going to do. Let's get to it.

there's a few more things I wanna do is number one. I want to do my final touch UPS, because as you can see, there are some stuff here that need some loving care, clearly.

And additionally, I also want to put in my house reflection because my house is supposed to be reflected here, but it is currently and not.

So let's do first things first. Let's go to my darken layer. And I'm just gonna take this and darken up my tree real quick. Perfect!

Look at that. Wow, so my final touch UPS real quick. I'm going to do a new layer and call it painter.

And I'm gonna take all of these here, which is my previous stuff, as you can see. But this this this. I’m just going to get rid of this stuff, because I don't need this anymore.

And now. Go into a painter first, and then touch stuff up.

And now that that's done, we're gonna do our junkie method of reflections,

which is go to the snap tool. All right. That looks pretty good. flip the vertical.

There we are. Now the house is reflected into the water.

I'm going to the same exact methods. I wanna get a little bit of this reflected in this area right here,

because technically you should be able to see a little bit of the mountains peeking out.

So can I go to 100% snap new right there copy paste.

And now you can see that I took a piece of the mountain and the sky, and then delete out the sky really quickly.

Lower the opacity. And I see that this little area here is a little muddy. So I'm just gonna go and clean that up.

i’m pretty much at a closing point now.

the last thing I'm gonna do really is do a slight light on little red, going to the very Top here, create clipping mask. I'm gonna do overlay.

Just kidding. I'm going to try softly.
P36 - 23:12柔化替代重叠。
honestly, for me as well. Even for someone who you would consider to have done this a lot of times, I always have to try and test out, which effects which suit my piece the most.

That's the fun part. It's about experimenting. So I still don't like how soft light is looking. So I'm gonna try still color dodge instead. Oh.
P36 - 23:33尝试颜色减淡。
And so that slight bit of light ever so slight is exactly what I'm looking for.

Turning off opacity down ever so slightly, just a little bit more subtle.
P36 - 23:53略微降低不透明度。
And now using the same color dodge layer, I'm gonna go in and add a little bit of brightness to my mountains.

When you look at our reference image here, you can see that they have this really nice orange layer like right there.

This is zooming in very much, but there's just like a little pocket of orange that really gives it its sun kissed glow.

So we can also imitate that same sun kissed glow, using either typically it's overly soft light or color dodge.

So we're going to find out which one works the best. This one is really nice. What? So now that can really imitate the idea of a sun.

Ah, I love color dodge man.

I realized that if I use colored dodge for anything else, it doesn't give me the kind of texture and idea that I want.

So I'm gonna make a new layer. And let's try overlay instead.

So we're trying to get for this little burnt edge Look,

cause that is what gives off the illusion of sunlight.

But I want it to be only at the very edge. If you overdo it, it looks really bad. And trust me, it will look not great. You can totally tell when someone completely over does it. And their entire piece just looks like it's glowing. So then well, if everything is glowing and nothing is glowing,

it's like syndrome from the incredible. If everyone is super that no one is super.
P36 - 25:30物极必反。
If you don't know where that reference is from, it is from the movie Incredible. And I highly encourage you to watch that movie. That movie is incredible. get it.

You can see that no matter how hard I try, I won't be able to get to the same amount of texture that my original photograph offers me.

But that's okay. Because this rock is so small on its own that people usually won't look at it.

Therefore I'm safe. as long as you don't zoom in too heavily. Staying on my overlay layer.

I don't know. Some kind of holy light is coming through. It's a little bit too much for me. I don't need that much holy light. Just a little bit of holy light.

Yeah, that's better. Let's go into another layer. Because there's never enough layers. It's going to do a soft light.
P36 - 26:23软光层。
You can even add just a little bit to the very tips of these guys. I'm gonna use my color dodge layer.

So now you just get this like every so soft glow. It's really the small details that make a piece like this.
P36 - 26:54熠熠生辉的点，小而有力量。
Feeling is coming alive. now for our final final touch UPS, my favorite which is color lookup and selective color.

The last little thing I'm going to add, basically you will call as instagram a vignette, a vignette is basically add blacks to the corners to make it feel as if, you know there's like this ring of black.
P36 - 27:33贴图，如做成光晕。
So if you just go on like say like instagram something like that, you'll probably see a vignette like this. Obviously, we don't want it to be this crazy. We just want the vignette to be in certain areas. So I'm going to delete this.
P36 - 27:46只需要一抹。不需要夸张。
add a new layer, I'm also apply it to multiply. And I'm just gonna take a random color anywhere that pick on the screen. Doesn’t need to be too dark.
P36 - 27:58多重层，随机色，不要太黑。
And that is it. That is my piece. Little red riding at either sunset or the rising sun, so dawn. You can choose this is a little red coming home at the end of her long journey saying, look at that.
