The NianGao is different with Malaysian Chinese NianGao, I think the southern China NianGao should be same with MY Chinese. MY Chinese also love XiaoLongPao, we usually will go restaurant Ding Tai Fung or Dragon-I to eat. The meat skewers in MY is call Satay or Sate in Indonesian and Malay spell.
上海的年糕跟马来西亚华人吃的年糕有点不太一样。我猜华南一带的年糕应该跟马来西亚的差不多。大马的华人还喜欢吃小笼包，我们一般会去鼎泰丰或者Dragon-I吃。马来西亚也有肉串，印尼语或马来语通常称之为“沙爹”( Satay/Sate)。

Try the 豆腐花 (toufu soup?) for breakfast.
It''s also got 开洋 dried shrimp in it, along with 紫菜 (seaweed, a kind of), soy sauce and a whole bunch of other fragrant and umami things in it.
I would die for a dip of 油条 fried dough in a cup of 豆腐花.
This is one thing I miss from Shanghai living in Sydney. I just haven''t found one single place in Sydney which does it right in terms of the authentic Shanghai style.
