28 Lesson 5 - Photobashing Basics Part 4 - Magic Tip - Color Matching

I'm going to show you one last little tip and trick that I really like to make things faster. I’m going to put everything into a group, copy the group. So I have my original backup,

and I’m going to merge this entire into one big flat layer.

Now everything is one image and you get a name it image.

Let's say my bird wants a friend. like this. I already finished the piece, and I don't wanna go through it everything that I just did to make this bird feel like it fits into the image.

Photoshop has a really neat trick for this. First, let's select out the bird.

My bird is now in the scene on Top of the stack of pancakes, next to this now super giant bird.

I can go up here to image adjustments match color.

I go into my source and I select bird demo layers, because this is the file that I have.

If you have multiple files open, like a bunch of tabs here, then this will be all the different files that you own.

So I click my bird demo layers, And then it also asks, where do you want your source to be from in terms of layer?

Well, in my layer, the source that I want this bird to look like is the layer that is named image.

So I go down here to layer and select image.

And as you can see it immediately colors the bird for me.

photoshops AI senses the colors used in the original image and color on Top of this bird to make them feel as if he belongs immediately,

I can fade it by using changes the opacity.

So if I go to 100, then that means that it does not affect this filter at all.

I can go to color intensity, found the colour is stronger, or found the color is weaker.

I think I want to make the colors a little bit weaker, Like this. You can change how bright you want the bird to be. How dark.

using this obviously is not perfect. But I was able to get a bird in relatively quickly to the same level of adjustment that my original bird went through.

Let's touch this little bird up just a little bit.  To make sure he doesn't blend into my front bird. I'm gonna give him a little bit of a rim light,

and like that. In a very short amount of time, I was able to add in a bird that had roughly around the same color as my original bird.

And my piece is essentially finished here. Now is this going to go in to national geographic as the next picture of the year? No, because I didn't spend that much time on to this, but this should have given you a very good idea about all the different tools you need for photo bashing.

This is literally the entire process of photo bashing. Now, instead of using birds and pancakes and hats, what if you're doing a giant city? Then you add photos on Top of another one by one by one. You cut the photos out, you add the shadows, you add multiply layers, you use a level adjustment layers, use overlay in color dodge.

And you will arrive to a fully finished piece that looks hyper photo realistic. Then very soon with practice, you will be well on your way to making some cool ass hyper realistic video game and movie concept art.

Let me move away from birds and show you what I would typically do to start an environment piece and photo bashing.

 Now that was a lot of photoshop that we just went through. I do want to make a quick disclaimer because I do know that a lot of people use either appropriate or they use clip studio paint, which are completely viable options.

However, when it comes to photo bashing at the moment do not know of an equal, for painting, pain air painting, illustration. I think that clip studio paint and procreate are completely viable options.

But I do believe that for photo bashing, the industry standard is specifically photoshop.

I do believe there is still a strong possibility to be able to make photo bashing work appropriate.

I've seen people do it. It's simply the idea and act of trimming out photographs and place them where you need to and using layer adjustment to be able to get the intended effect.

The only thing missing would be photoshop AI system and their magic one selections and some of their distort tools. But otherwise I believe that it is viable in any other program.

So please don't let any of this discourage you. If you're not using specifically photoshop, cause I know that it is a very expensive program. Not everyone may have access to the same resources. I would strongly encourage you to give it a shot, either way, you will be at the forefront to end frontier of your respective program.

That being said, I do want to warn, however, if you are planning to pursue this as a professional career in a primary source of income, then things might be a little bit different.

It is definitely the industry standard and your employer will expect you to be using it, at least for now in 2021. Things might change later on. Who knows? Now that being said, let's get to the recap.

We learned that photo bashing is to be able to achieve a hyper realistic look specifically used for live action movies and hyper realistic video games.

Examples such as last of us two, red dead redemption, cyberpunk 2077, witch three, The list goes on and on and on. Although some people claim it is cheating, really isn’t. because at the end of the day, you are creating a collage of your own. And as we learned with technology advancements, every single time there will be a new frontier that the old generation will just have to accept the fact that art is moving into a new direction.

We went from tempera paint to oil paint.

We went from illustration to project tracing with Roman rockwell. And now we have the digital age. And so of course, naturally, art is going to progress too.

it's not possible to create a hyper realistic photo finish piece, and only a single day. If you expect the person to completely painted from scratch, technology helps us get faster. And so photo bashing was a natural advent of it.

And it is a very new medium, just like digital painting. Take caution, especially and never photo bashing someone else's artwork, whether it be a photo bash, a collage or painting. Other people's work is off limits.

Then with our wonderful bird pancake demo, we were able to show every single step of photo bashing.

This includes using the lasso tool in its different avenues on how to be able to take a photo and extract exactly what you want from it.

How to stitch the pieces together, especially in the correct perspective,

how to transform items, skew them, distort them, and make them a better perspective.

And then we dedicated an entire video on how exactly were able to make it so that the pieces of your photo bash feel like they harmonized together.

We achieve this using a levels layer and multiple layers such as the multiply layer, the overlay layer, color dodge in a lot of adjustments on a hue adjustment and color balance and such.

We took a look at really cool tips and tricks such as being able to replace the sky in any image or being able to match the color of a new photo to original photo.

Finally be able to apply all of these things. by doing an actual environment piece.

Because a piece like this, which is much bigger than just an average bird with pancakes and hats.

It is going to take a much longer time to be able to adjust and harmonize all the pieces together.

And so this demo video was simply dedicated to be able to stitch images together properly.

during the process. We start with a sketch, then we go on to bashing in the house, the snow a little red, as you saw from the demo. It's a pretty complicated and time consuming process,

but it's still much faster than if someone had to paint it all by themselves. It's a very interactive and quite frankly, very fun form of collagen. And after touching everything up the pieces ready to be able to go into the next phase.

That being said, you are now also ready to go into the next phase, which is your practice and improvement. No more looking at me do it. Now it's time for you to give it a try.
