贺新郎·读史

Man, to the ape, waved goodbye.

人猿相揖别。

Having stone tools to fight the odds①,

Which was his infancy② road.

只几个石头磨过，
小儿时节。

Bronze and iron tempered at flames;

When did he learn this art, do you know?

But a few thousand years ago.

铜铁炉中翻火焰，
为问何时猜得？
不过几千寒热。

On earth broad smiles are rarely seen;

On field bows drawn phased like moon.

人世间难逢开口笑，
上疆场彼此弯弓月。

All plains are red,

With blood that’s shed.

流遍了，

郊原血。 

One volume read, and you’ll be old.

一篇读罢头飞雪，

Recalling but some regal feuds③,

Old traces taken from older quotes.

但记得斑斑点点，
几行陈迹。

The legends of saint kings retold,

Have fooled countless human sloths.

五帝三皇神圣事，
骗了无涯过客。

How many are hailed in odes④?

有多少风流人物？

Let Spartacus⑤ win his fame,

Shall peasants aroused to wield their forks.

盗跖庄蹻流誉后，
更陈王奋起挥黄钺。

Songs unsung,

A brand new dawn.⑥

歌未竟，
东方白。

【注解】

①偶然性，逆境。人类生产力的发展，就是对世界的认识和实践不断深化的过程，就是通过生产斗争将自然从异己的偶然性变为必然性的过程。

②infancy，幼儿期，初创期。也是否定前缀in加上fancy，说明这条路不是空想的。

③regal，帝王的、皇室的。feud，恩怨、世仇、争吵不休。过去的史书都是英雄史观，通篇都是帝王将相。

④hail，歌颂。ode，颂歌。这句承上一句，反问群众运动领袖又有多少被载入史册呢？被人民所记住的，才是真正的风流人物。如跖最初被污蔑为盗，后来统治者也不得不承认其“名声若日月”了。

⑤Spartacus是罗马共和国时期的奴隶起义领袖，领导了斯巴达克奴隶起义，是人类历史上最知名且影响最久远的一次奴隶起义。

⑥unsung，既可以认为是没有唱完，也可以按照字典的意思翻译为被埋没的。两者都是可取的，前者更贴合原诗作者的意思，后者则是我对那段历史被埋没和歪曲的感叹。无产阶级万岁！
