I heard this somewhere and wondered if it's true.
If that's the case does your local doctor or doctor at hospital prescribe equally both TCM and western medicine?
我曾在某处看到过这种说法，好奇是不是真的。如果是这样的话，你那儿的当地医生或在医院任职的医生是中西药都会开的吗？

I don’t think they do. My cousin attended medical school in China and I don’t think they learned any TCM. In America my parents have often worked with Chinese scientists who attended decent TCM school in China and they all had to study modern science. It was easier to get into a TCM school than a “western” medical school in those days but the curriculum seem to be similar.

I don't think anyone raised by Chinese education system can practice modern medicine. Only those who pass the USMLE or its equivalent or get an ECFMG certification can practice modern medicine.
我不认为任何一个从中国教育体系培养出来的人能从事现代医学。只有那些通过了美国执业医师资格考试（USMLE）或其他同等级考试，或是取得了美国临床执业医师资格（ECFMG）的人才能从事现代医学。

Yup actual TMC has come quite a long way inside China. You still have a lot of those idiots grinding up rare keratin for boner pills but the principals of TCM are solid and different to western medicine. It focuses more on ameliorating symptoms than curing you. I.e. for the flu in the west you'll get antivirals and something to help you sleep but TCM will take factors like your age gender weight and flegm type (and more) and give you something to basically prevent the symptoms that is tailored to you specifically. Personally I've had reasonable experiences going to doctors in China for bronchitis. It normally takes 2 weeks for it to clear up with antibiotics and bed rest but with TCM it took 3 weeks with symptoms diminished enough that I could still work. Doctor still prescribed antibiotics because they aren't crazy I also got some other pills with a picture of a plant on them. Still contagious a/f though so it explains a lot of the massive plagues that China gets semi regularly.

i'm not chinese don't speak it and don't live there. but i wonder if you overstate the personalization of TCM at least as i see it in California.

i see a lot of chinese medicines and i notice that a lot of them are in fact western medicine in chinese boxes. or they are if the labeling is to be believed. the users however are sure these are "chinese medicine".

i also go on trips to the local TCM dispensary which is a shabby storefront in a rundown shopping center. the walls are lined with worn drawers full of brown dusty weeds. the "doctor's" diploma hangs on the wall certifying that he has a PhD. the happy customer goes home with a bundle of dried weeds wrapped in paper. other than the briefest descxtion of the symptoms ("cold") there is no interview or customization or personalization or history.

I don't agree with that statement at all. I had a Chinese China-trained TCM practitioner in Australia who was also a qualified doctor and she used a combo of modern medicine and TCM to treat me. I've had two Chinese China-trained TCM practitioners here in Germany who also believe that modern medicine has an important part to play in the treatment of a wide range of illnesses and TCM is a good complement for some treatments but they'd never advocate ignoring western medicine.
I think there's crackpots in any field but the key is finding a good doctor. You can't generalise like that...
But I agree vax your kids.

Edit: she wasn't qualified to practice western medicine in Australia only in China. Used to be one of the top docs in a huge Beijing hospital but could only practice TCM in Australia as her English wasn't good enough (and she couldn't be bothered at her age) to go through the rigmarole of redoing her medical qualifications in Aus.

No it takes at least 11-15 years in China to become a doctor! 5 years of bachelor 3 years of master 3 years of PhD 2 years of general residency and 2 years of specialization training! (According to my friend who is in med school rn)
