THE WAR OF DAKKA

在与新兴的钛星帝国刀兵相向时，兽人军阀们经常会发现他们的火力远远不如对方。这让参战的兽人部队十分恼火，有时甚至还会导致绿皮就此撤退，军阀们抱怨说，钛星人对 “如何正确干架” 毫无概念可言。不过，葛罗格的Waaagh! 是一个例外，这场复仇的远征一直打到了钛族变节指挥官远见的领土深处。

Ork Warlords fighting against the nascent empire of the Tau have often found themselves sorely outgunned. This is very irritating for the Ork forces involved, and sometimes even results in a greenskin retreat, the Warlords muttering to themselves that the Tau have no idea 'how to fight proper'. One exception is Waaagh! Grog, a crusade of vengeance that extended deep into the territory of the renegade Tau commander Farsight.

Grog Ironteef, the Warchief of Alsanta, has become one of the Tau Empire's most deady foes. His fleet engaged the Kroot warspheres drifting through the spacelanes of Dal'yth. Grog had found that the Kroot made excellent opponents. They were mercenary aliens who preferred to engage at close quarters, and they could be relied upon to provide the vicious brawls upon which the Orks thrive. Just as the two races were settling in for a protracted campaign of head-bashing the Tau came to the aid of their Kroot allies.

Grog was furious. He declared war upon the Tau, determined to show them that the Orks were not to be trifled with. Unfortunately the Warchief's initial invasions of the Tau sept worlds did not go according to plan. His armies were outclassed and outgunned again and again. Though he had an entire empire of Orks to throw into battle he found that their numbers were being whittled away with worrying speed.

葛罗格的复仇 · GROG'S REVENGE

当他打入位于钛帝国北部的远见飞地时，葛罗格遇到的抵抗变得尤为激烈。然而这一回，他做好了充分的准备。那些噼啪作响的死亡大枪由虏获的钛族武器改装而来，拾荒小子揣着它们与钛星人的枪线展开了致命的对射。当葛罗格和他的小子们踏着沉重的步伐朝着敌军的枪线袭杀而去时，战斗篷车和抢来的锤头鲨坦克用重型弹药向成群的钛族火战士发起了猛烈的轰击。

Grog encountered even fiercer resistance as he penetrated the Farsight enclave in the north of the Tau Empire. This time, however, he was more than ready. Lootas, toting crackling deffguns converted from captured Tau weaponry, exchanged lethal volleys of fire with the Tau gunlines. Battlewagons and looted Hammerhead tanks pounded the massed ranks of the Tau Fire Warriors with heavy munitions as Grog and his boyz stomped towards the enemy gunline.

为了咬住对方，在天上盘旋飞舞的死死直升机与战斗服小队展开了空战。而最令人印象深刻的莫过于烂赌鬼船长和他的炫枪流寇了，他们不仅点亮了夜空，而且还让一队又一队的火战士绝望地倒在了他们的魔改大枪之下。只有曼塔导弹驱逐舰奥'伊斯·钋'空育的到来才阻止了这场屠杀，在磁轨炮的一轮齐射之下，炫枪流寇被无情地杀死了。身受重伤，获胜无望，船长被迫退兵。据说，一心复仇的烂赌鬼直到今天都还在追杀那条优雅的舸舰。

Deffkoptas corkscrewed through the skies in aerial battles with battlesuit teams, preventing them from disengaging. Most impressive of all, Kaptin Badrukk and his Flash Gitz lit up the night, annihilating team after team of desperate Tau warriors with their snazzguns. The carnage was only stopped by the arrival of the Manta missile destroyer Or'es Por'kauyon, which mercilessly cut down the Flash Gitz in a volley of railgun fire. Badly wounded and out of cigars, the Kaptin was forced to retreat. lt is rumoured that Badrukk pursues that great and graceful ship to this day, hell-bent on revenge.

如果钛星人秉承其所常用的连打带跑战术，那么他们仍旧能够获得胜利，但远见司令以其好勇斗狠和习武之傲而闻名。最血腥的战斗即将来临。

Perhaps if the Tau had adhered to their usual hit-and-run tactics they would still have carried the day, but Commander Farsight was known for his aggression and martial pride. The bloodiest battle was yet to come.

狡计 · THE KUNNIN'PLAN

随着飞地北部的争夺战逐步升级，葛罗格展开了一项也许是迄今为止最狡猾的计划。该计划的核心理念居然是撤退，在兽人的文化中，这种战术几乎闻所未闻。要不是葛罗格雇佣了大量的血斧战酋，他永远都不会取得成功。

As the battle for the northern enclaves escalated, Grog embarked upon perhaps the cunningest plan yet. Central to the plan was the concept of retreat, a tacticall but unheard of in Ork kultur. lf it weren't for the large number of Blood Axe warbosses in Grog's employ he would never have carried it off.

当远见司令的部队向前推进时，兽人的前线往后退了下去，只见他们纷纷抓着脑袋大喊大叫。钛族的部队陷入了狩猎的欢呼之中，他们（把战线）拉得过长了。突然之间，余下的兽人部队从两侧发起了伏击，他们就像一双绿色的巨颚一样，冲着钛族的猎核逼了过去。

As the forces of Commander Farsight pressed forward, the Ork front line fell back, hooting and hollering and clutching their heads. The Tau forces, caught in the jubilation of the hunt, overextended themselves. Suddenly the remainder of the Ork force ambushed them from either side, closing upon the Tau hunter cadres like a pair of giant green jaws.

The Tau high command were shocked to the core. Their force had been outmanoeuvred and trapped by the brutish alien invaders. They scrambled reinforcements to evacuate Commander Farsight, but Grog's warmachine was in the ascendant. The Warchief and his boyz pursued the retreating Tau back to their base, burning it to the ground and looting as many Tau weapons as they could. With every bit of dakka they found, Grog's boyz became more of a threat, and soon they were tooled up with more high-powered weaponry than even the greediest Flash Gitz could wish for. The tide had turned, and it was not likely to turn back.

自从那一天起，涌至大酋长旗下的战帮变得越来越多。葛罗格在一年的时间里拿下了三个家门世界，（他们）陷入了一场消耗战，兽人可以负担得起，但钛星人却无法承受。无论被远见和他的猎核杀死多少次，当新的绿皮大军缓慢而又致命地逼近时，都会有更多的兽人紧随其后。

Since that day many more warbands have flocked to the Warchief's banner. Grog has taken three sept worlds in the space of a year, locked in a war of attrition that the Orks can afford but the Tau cannot. No matter how many times Farsight and his cadres cut down the Orks, more follow close behind as new armies of greenskins make their slow but deadly approach.

这就是绿皮文化的本质所在——有架可打的消息一旦传开，那么和平就会成为遥远的回忆。因此，钛星人的家门世界被东缘星疆的兽人团团包围，如今，他们的扩张之战已然沦为了一场生存之争。

This is the nature of greenskin kultur - once word spreads of a good fight, peace becomes a distant memory. So it is that the Tau Sept worlds are constantly embattled by the greenskins of the Eastern Fringe, their fight for expansion now a simple war for survival.

哒卡战争的小贴士

I.葛罗格和远见恩怨一直可以追溯到阿库纳沙战争。

从733.M41到825.M41，远见和葛罗格用了92个泰拉年才了断了这份恩怨。

II.兽人对钛族武器（尤其是太空战武器）的评价甚高①，因为它们的射程和火力确实相当恐怖②。

'Exackly,' said Grog. 'These ones need ta make the best guns so they can still be such a buncha runts. But imagine if we had them guns for ourselves. Then we’d have the best muscle and the best dakka.'

'The railgun is a wondrous thing,' said O'Vesa. 'We outrange them by several orders of magnitude. I understand our kill-to-loss ratio in the asteroid field is in the multiple hundreds.'

III.根据最新的剧情（兽人的4版军书是2008年出版的，可能是因为过于古早的缘故，在日后的故事中，里面的不少剧情设定都作出了相应的调整），远见是在亲手击毙了葛罗格①，并将他的部队尽数击败之后②，才选择出走的③。

①“不，你不能！” 葛罗格一边叫喊着，一边将自己探出了驾驶笼舱，在绝望的挥舞中，他的双钩甩成了一道弧线，“这颗星球现在是我的了，你这红色的蠢货！”

'No ya don't!' shouted Grog, leaning out of the driver's cage to send his double hook arcing out in a wild, desperate swing. 'This is my planet now, ya red git!'

随着怒啸于外的风暴，只见一道耀眼夺目的能量光矛从战斗服的手臂上疾射而出，将葛罗格的视野填得满满当当。

A lance of eye-searing energy speared out from the battlesuit’s arm, filling Grog’s vision entirely as the storm roared its fury outside.

就在那一刻，远见飞地的兽人入侵将注定失败。

And in that moment, the ork invasion of the Farsight Enclaves was doomed to failure.

②随着液压装置的一阵嘶鸣，神经簇舱打开，只见它狠狠地砸在了巨形兽人的前额上。那只野兽被打懵了，他跌跌撞撞地往后退了过去。远见从他的英雄战甲里一跃而出，并在冲出控制茧舱的那一刻拔出了自己的团结之刃。他猛地扑了上去，然后把利刃插进了那个生物的眼窝之中，直至没柄。

The plexus hatch opened with a hiss of hydraulics, slamming right into the hulking ork's forehead. The beast stumbled back, stunned. Farsight leapt from his Hero's Mantle, drawing his bonding knife from its harness even as he burst out of the control cocoon. He lunged, sinking the blade to the hilt in the creature's eye socket.

那头野兽向后倒了下去，远见翻身而避，与此同时，冷星砰地一声将那个生物的尸体砸进了泥土之中。他蜷着身子走上前来，双眼拼命地寻找着武器，但那个生物已经死透了，感谢钛'瓦。

The beast toppled backwards, and Farsight rolled away even as the Coldstar thumped down to crush the creature's body into the dirt. He came up in a crouch, eyes searching desperately for a weapon, but the creature was truly dead, thank the T'au'va.

然后，当他来到那具肌肉虬结的尸体跟前，并将自己的匕首拔出时，他并没有感到丝毫的兴奋。取而代之的是一种衰然而退的感觉，其中参杂着疲惫感和缓涌而出的悲戚感，（它们在为）夺取他的身心而争斗不休。

He did not feel a thrill, then, as he walked up to the muscular corpse and pulled his knife free. Instead he felt an ebbing mix of exhaustion and slow, welling sadness that fought to claim him, body and soul.

结束了。这里没有兽人，也没有魔物，除了由他指挥的钛星人之外，再无其他活物了。

It was done. There were no orks, no Molochites, nothing alive here but the t'au under his command.

③此时，三位随军以太已经全部阵亡。

在他们之中的某个地方，有三具以太的残尸，远见曾经发过誓要保护他们的安全。

Amongst them, somewhere, were the mutilated cadavers of the three ethereals that Farsight had sworn to keep safe.

他跪了下去，一股深入魂灵的失落感就像雪花一样积落在他的肩膀之上。尽管身体上并没有感觉到丝毫的疼痛，但他之前的欢欣之火已经彻底熄灭了。

He collapsed to his knees, a soul-deep feeling of loss settling like snow thickening upon his shoulders. Though he felt not a single pang of physical pain, his former elation had been quenched completely.

“至高司令官，” 离他最近的破袭小队夏司'钨如此说道，“我们胜利了。”

'High commander,' said the shas'ui of the nearest breacher team. ‘We are victorious.’

“并非如此，夏司'钨，” 远见轻声说道，“并非如此。”

'That is not so, shas'ui,' said Farsight softly. 'That is not so.'

IV.同样，根据日后的剧情，“葛罗格在一年的时间里拿下了三个家门世界” 被改成了阿塔利·沃突袭战①和拉洛克防御战②，其中前一场战争把远见打得信心全失，他差一点就为此辞官卸任③；而日后的那场让钛星人的 “扩张之战沦为生存之争” 的绿皮入侵也被移到了三扩之前，不过，通过科'瑞希扩张接踵而至的联邦大战，铵'瓦不仅让来袭的兽人统统沦为了影阳大军的刀下之鬼④，更是为第三次扩张练出了一批具有实战经验的远征部队。

①葛罗格的降临，815.M41/The Descent of Grog, 815.M41

在哒咔战争期间，军阀葛罗格用他能想象到的最为直接的方式加入到了对钛族世界阿塔利·沃的战争之中——他将那颗被其当作基地使用的匕首状彗星推入了大气层，然后径直插入了钛星人的首府都市。在葛罗格和他的哒咔精英们步出彗星的盾核舱室、然后展开他们心心念想的哒咔战争之前，阿塔利·沃上的居民死了数十亿人。

During the War of Dakka, Warlord Grog takes battle to the Tau-held world of Atari Vo in the most direct manner he can devise - by propelling the titanic dagger-shaped meteor he uses as his base through the atmosphere and plunging its burning tip straight into the Tau capital city. Several billion of Atari Vo's Tau populace die before Grog and his Dakka Elite step out of the meteor's shieldcore chambers to begin the War of Dakka in earnest. 

②拉洛克防御战，815.M41/The Defence of lolac, 815.M41

当葛罗格的兽人"Waaagh!" 潮向钛帝国的边疆发起入侵时，他认为通过压倒性的武力击溃钛族的军事武装会是一件手到擒来的事。然而卫戍在农业世界洛拉克上的猎核证明葛罗格错了。钛星人的炮台和通讯哨塔全都置于力场护盾的保护之下，躲在里面的钛星人对传送到他们战场周围的兽人造成了恐怖的伤亡。

When the Orks of Waaagh! Grog invaded the fringes of the Tau Empire, Grog believed that a simple application of overwhelming force would cripple the Tau military.The hunter cadres stationed upon the arid world of lolac soon proved Grog wrong. Holing up in force field-protected gun-bastions and comms outposts, the Tau took a horrific toll on the Orks teleporting into battle all around them. 

③“跨越湾区进入家门宙域，作出这个决定是我的失职。在阿塔利·沃，我率领我的基核加入了一场伏击，并由此失去了除了 '欧' 级之外的所有战士。我尚未面临正式的斥责。也许是时局过于艰难的缘故。但是，由于我的抉择，无数的钛星人就此死去，而且这已经不是第一次了。我失败了。在我认为自己可以再度发号司令之前，我必须进行反思、学习和成长。”

'My decision to cross the gulf into sept space was an abandonment of my duty. Upon Atari Vo, I led my cadre into an ambush, and thereby lost all my warriors save those of o rank. I have yet to face formal censure. Perhaps the time is too dire. But countless t'au have died because of my decision, and not for the first time. I have failed. I must reflect, learn and grow before I can consider myself ready for command once more.'

Although Aun'Va had planned to awaken Commander O'Shaserraat the dawn of the Third Sphere Expansion, the largest Ork invasion of the T'au Empire accelerated the Ethereal Supreme's meticulous calculations. Yet even this, the sagacious Aun'Va turned into an advantage. Appearing in a time of great need, O'Shaserrahas once more proven herself a patient hunter, meticulous in her planning, yet swift in action. Her ability to draw foes into well-conceived killing zones lured numerous Ork armies to merciless deaths during the battles of what is now called the Great War of Confederation. Yet, as the situation dictated, O'Shaserra could be bold. In order to end the fierce fighting in the K'resh Expansions, she led a Stealth Cadre straight into the heart of the Ork encampment to deliver a killing stroke. Timing her strike to coincide with an artificial eclipse, the T'au forces used the jet packs of their XV25 battlesuits to deploy from low-swooping Orca dropships.

Under the cover of the unnatural darkness, the greenskins never knew what hit them. In an instant, their leaders were riddled by burst cannons before being finished off with searing shots from fusion blasters. It was O'Shaserra herself who personally sought out and targeted the warlord, bringing down the hulking alien with precision fire. As the alien hordes milled in confusion, the rest of O'Shaserra's cadres joined the fray. Without their bosses to lead them, most of the Orks panicked and fled, only to run into well-placed ambushes. By the time the sunlight burnt through the obscuring veil, the battle was over and a new Fire caste legend was born.

Aun'Va was quick to promote the dedicated Commander, for he saw embodied in her all that was noble about the Fire caste's pursuit of the Greater Good. Here was a Commander who would not shirk from duty, who would not forget her vows to her people or her loyalty to Aun'Va himself. When he declared the Third Sphere Expansion, Aun'Va also announced the warrior who would spearhead the most important of attacks – Commander O'Shaserra, now called Shadowsun in honour of what was then her greatest triumph.
