Advice for jazz music students:

每天练习你的乐器。

Practice your instrument every day.

不断研究爵士乐传统，模仿爵士乐大师的最佳特点。

Continuously study the jazz tradition. Emulate the best characteristics of your musical heroes.

尽可能多地与他人一起演奏音乐。聆听你的乐队成员的演奏，并与他们一起演奏。即使是在独奏的时候也要合作。

Play music with others as often as you can. Listen to what your bandmates play, and play alongside them. Collaborate—even when taking a solo.

可能的话，把你演奏的曲目记在脑子里。如果你一定要读谱，请保持你的耳朵开放。不要被你面前的乐谱或iPad分心。

Whenever possible, commit the repertoire you perform to memory. If you must read, keep your ears open. Do not get distracted by the sheet music or iPad in front of you.

Learn to swing.

发展良好的力度，良好的音准，良好的时间感，好技术，好的音色，和迷人的音乐个性。

Develop good dynamics, good intonation, a good time feel, good technique, a good tone, and a winsome musical personality.

尽量不要灰心。有时很难保持热情，但还是要努力。

Try not to get discouraged. Sometimes it will be hard to stay enthusiastic. But try anyway.

不要不尊重观众。

Do not disdain the audience.

勤奋，不懒惰。慷慨，不自私。豁达，不贪婪。谦卑，不傲慢。忍耐，不急躁。

Be diligent, not slothful. Generous, not selfish. Gracious, not greedy. Humble, not haughty. Patient, not hasty.
