This spectacular glacier in Alberta is among the most visited in North America. Located approximately 100 kilometres south of Jasper, the Athabasca Glacier is one of the six glaciers formed by the sea of ice spilling from the Columbia Icefield. Due to the fragile nature of ice and the hidden crevasses that form around the glacier, access to the cave is permitted with a certified guide. Given the impact of global warming, the Athabasca Glacier has been declining in volume and retreating by more than 1.5 kilometres over the last 125 years. This shot is just one of many views of the staggeringly scenic landscape.
