一、指向目的

表示各种目的（如果后面接人，则表示对方受益），可以为“给、对、为”

She went to France for holiday.
Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.
A book for you.

Work for IBM.

Let’s go for a walk.

It’s time for bed.

He came to me for advice.

She knew she was destined for a great future.

二、指向原因

表因为（指向起因）

Thank you for coming.

France is famous for its wines.

三、指向相关事件

译为“对、对于、由”

She’s tall for her age

The box is too heavy for me to lift

The money is for you to decide.

She had a natural gift for teaching

It’s easy for me to learn English.

As for me, I agree with the latter.

for常和fit\good\bad\useful\suitable等形容词连用，表示对于、适合。

四、双指向

表交换、对等关系, 译为“换”

These socks are 10 dollars for two

I”ll swap these two bottles for that one

表作为、代表

I”ll keep it for a souvenir.

He spoke English so well that I took him for a foreigner.

He took her to (or for)wife.

A is for apple.
