    Studies / serve /for delight, for ornament（n.装饰品，点缀物，饰物，摆设 v.用某物装饰，装饰有某物）, and /for ability. Their chief use/ for delight, is in privateness / and retiring（a.不合群的；害羞的；不爱交际的;害羞的;孤僻的;离群索居的；）; for ornament, is/ in discourse（n.〔关于某个主题的〕演讲，论述，著述；〔在特定类型的讲话或论著中使用的〕话语，语篇）; and for ability, is in the judgment / and disposition（n.性情;性格；意向，倾向；处置，处理；） of business.   

    王佐良版本翻译：读书足以怡情，足以傅彩，足以长才。其怡情也，最见于独处幽居之时；其傅彩也，最见于高谈阔论之中；其长才也，最见于处世判事之际。

    For expert /men can execute（v. 实行；执行；将…处死;将…正法； ）, and perhaps/ judge /of particulars（<复数>n.细节；详情）, one by one; but the general counsels（n. <literary>= advice 忠告 v.建议; 给…提供咨询，辅导）, and the plots （n.v.密谋，阴谋，秘密计划）and marshalling（v.整理〔思路、想法等〕；调集，集结〔力量〕； 控制；组织；引领）/ of affairs, come best /from those /that are learned. To spend/ too much time/ in studies/ is sloth（n.懒惰，懒散）; to use them/ too much/ for ornament, is/ affectation（n.装模作样，矫揉造作）; to make judgement/ wholly（ad.完全地;完整地 You use wholly to emphasize the extent or degree to which something is the case.） by their rules, is the humour/ of a scholar.
