Moreover, the whole "love" thing is only Klein's assumption based on limited information. For all we know, Trissy's current goal could be the result of her feeling resentful that the only(?) person to truly care about her was manipulated from start to end, losing his life for no fault of his own. And from that perspective, it wouldn't be far-fetched for her to have developed feelings for him, either.

He is acting like this for the peace of his mind. Several times it was mentioned that as you advance things like that matter more and more. Or else you would easily lose control. I guess that both the "don't forget you are just acting" part of the acting principle and the Faceless principle about not losing oneself completely in the role one is playing has much to do with maintaining a healthy state of mind and sense of self least you lose your sanity. Perhaps even the faith demigods use as anchors work in a similar manner : your believers 'remind' you of who you really are. Or else you risk your beyonder characteristic overwrite your actual personality.

He has a moral code which makes him interesting. His bottom line is important to his character. I agree it’s could be easier for him without it but something tells me she will play a role in the end.

Boo! Thieves and liars are a dime a dozen among protagonists in webfiction. These stories often make it seem like having strong morals is a weakness, like they're just holding you back. This is not true. Having strong principles is an asset, though you obviously need the strength to back them up.

For instance, Klein has strong principles, and these serve him well to keep his sanity when advancing, but more to the point, once he discards these principles he'll cease to be the person he was. Power corrupts, as the beyonder potions and the many evil mad gods can attest.

With how many times she enter the sewer, I believe Trissy notice her a dozen times already and even she(he?) doesn't attempt to steal it. I mean, how comes a low-sequence Beyonder have this kind of powerful mystical item, not to mention that she's a noble lady? Stealing it is equal to risking yourself from a powerful Beyonder and likely from the nobles as well. IMO, before he knows who's backing her, it's totally not worth the risk at all.

Trissy's target was only killed the day of this chapter, so she didn't need to hide and recuperate in the sewers until now. At most, each of them would be in the sewers for an hour at most, and Walter only recently relocated here with Dwayne Dantes. They don't go there after night, and it looks like Trissy might not have met with Walter this way for more than once a month.

He has his priorities. They are already suspected for the murder and if something hAppened to his neighbor who is a believer of the goddess this time then the nighthawks and even the red gloves will surely investigate him. His chances of getting to demigod will be ruined just for that artifact.

Taking the artifact or not in this case wouldn't affect the outcome at all. Either way he already use beyonder powers when he interacted with hazel and in a pretty meaningful way too. Whether or not he took the necklace wouldn't affect anything as long as he still sent her home afterwards. A random beyonder of the Marauder Pathway definitely wouldn't risk communicating with the nighthawks either.

所以拿不拿那个封印物完全不会影响最终结局啊。不管他用哪种方式，他和海柔尔发生了互动的同时已经用了非凡能力，这已经是个非常意味深长的方式了。不管他拿不拿这个项链，都不会影响结局，只要他把她好好送回家就行。一个偷盗者途径的路人非凡者也绝对不可能冒和值夜者打交道的风险的。

No one can tell yet if Hazel is really just some random beyonder. She might have a faction behind her. Do remember that she does mysterious stuff in the sewers and beyonders with powerful artifacts don't just come out of nowhere either. It's not worth it for an artifact he no longer needs.

I thought her ring artifact and the possession by the Primordial Demoness were removed by the living sequence 0 sealed artifact / angel of the Evernight Goddess in the finale of the Great Smog of Backlund.

Are we even sure that Trissy is correct about having sold her soul to the Primordial Demoness? Maybe she didn't entirely realise that she's been saved from that fate, or maybe this fate is more inevitable than it seemed.

我觉得她的那件戒指封印物还有来自原初魔女的支持都已经被那个活着的0级封印物/黑夜女神的天使破坏掉了，就在贝克兰德大雾霾事件的最后发生的。

对于特莉丝说的“把自己的灵魂卖给了原初魔女”，我们目前真的有实锤吗？也许她完全不明白她只是被命运搭救了，或者也许目前这种命运其实比它看起来的还要更无可挽回。

It is common in this kind of story that the "evil side" has the advantage of speed/power cuz they dont give a crap about moral and will do whatever it take to reach their goal while the "good side" has the advantage of order and unity.

At a higher level, this novel reminds me a lot of The Experimental Log of The Crazy lich, that **** is fucking awesome in a similar but different way than this novel

This time, as Gehrman Sparrow, he's assassinating a Sequence 5 beyonder in exchange for borrowing Leymano's Travels and taking one of her two stones which allow travel through the spirit world.

- Klein will return Leymano's Travels to Fors, and he likely won't remove all recorded beyonder powers (though he might remove e.g. the Paper Angel power). This will put her in a similar position to Klein with Creeping Hunger: she can punch above her weight class.

- Fors will definitely get some kind of *huge* reward from her teacher.

- Fors will also earn more trust from her teacher. On the one hand, this should allow her to faciliate the cooperation between him and Queen Mystic, thereby obtaining more profits. On the other hand, trust and knowledge from the Abraham family is likely vital to Fors' eventual goal of being freed from Mr. Door's influence.

Oh at this point I fully expect it to be a chapter or three before the actual assassination attempt, Klein needs to assess to battleground and his target to make sure everything is ready for the performance, plus he might find something useful such as an item or information for sale to stall a bit more, not to mention try and figure out a way to prevent any guards from interfering after taking note of them.

I... holy hell this gave me spooks. I expected something actiony after a chapter or two of scouting but this... this is just plain scary Klein! This guy can’t even tell who is on the verge of killing him here and just feeling his life slowly slipping out of his hands for several minutes as the people around him fail to notice his plight... his own body being used to prevent anyone from noticing anything is wrong!

Though with Klein’s luck I can’t tell if this is going too well at the moment and something is about to go horribly wrong, or if his success here means difficulties coming for him soon lol.

我……卧槽啊，这真的让我感觉究极恐怖。我本来还以为要等一到两章的现场侦查之后才能开始行动的，但这实在是……这真的太恐怖了克莱恩！这个家伙甚至都不知道现场是谁要杀他，只时感觉到他的生命慢慢地脱出了自己的掌控，仅仅在几分钟之内，还是在周围的人都环绕着他的情况下发生的，而其他人完全没有注意到……他自己的身体被*纵着，完美避免了任何人对他的状况产生怀疑！

虽然以克莱恩的运气来说，我不知道事情会不会就这么顺利地进展下去，接下来会不会发生一些重大的问题，或者他尽管在这件事情上获得了巨大成功，却会对未来的某些事情造成麻烦什么的2333

Another reason why I love this story and the MC so much:

- Klein never plays when he hunts. Going for the kill or just haul ass immediately when sh1t went sideways.

- The author have enough restraint when depicting battles to avoid sinking into back and forth escalation of who had bigger sticks. Yet somehow managed to keep all combatants powers not look cheap and still interesting & terrifying.👍🏼🙏🏼

另一个让我如此喜爱这本书还有主角的原因：

-克莱恩开始狩猎的时候从来不掉以轻心。要么一击毙命，要么就在失手的时候立刻抽身。

-作者在描绘战斗场面的时候足够克制，避免了陷入来回描写“谁手里的棍子更粗”的状况，但他还是能做到让所有的这些战斗能力看起来既有意思又不落俗套。👍🏼🙏🏼

Holy ****...this is the most unique battle! TApping your finger to your head =/= disrupting dude's life saving contingency/use of magic item lol. Looks so normal but is actually epic. Still waters run deep

I actually didn't quite get that part... Why would tApping the ring to his head disrupt his use of the artifact? Was it some kind of offensive artifact that would blow off his head if used? But that can't be right... He doesn't even know who his opponent is, so who could he have attacked? And if it's some kind of support artifact, why would tApping it against his head stop him from using it? Some further clarification much Appreciated...

其实我没太懂这一段……为什么用那个戒指敲他的头就是打断了他对封印物的操纵过程啊？这是某种攻击性的封印物的效果吗，就是能用来爆头的那种？但肯定不是这样的吧……他甚至都不知道自己的对手是谁，那他怎么攻击啊？而且如果这是某种辅助类封印物，那为什么用它敲头能让他中断使用封印物的过程？有人能解释一下吗非常感谢……

Basically the finger tap was a physical blow to the head that disrupted his concentration so he failed to activate the item

用手指敲脑袋的动作基本上可以看做试一次对他脑袋的物理攻击，这能让他分心，所以他没办法集中精神激活自己的物品

How chilling! Cuttlefish really did well in portraying the slow oppression, helplessness, and fear of being controlled. No matter how many times I read it, my breath still halts, heart racing! The pull off is really exhilarating but... don't tell me it'll just end like this? Klein's most clean kill yet? Our mc never has it this easy ok!

真是令人汗毛直竖！乌贼真的很擅长表现这种缓慢的压迫感，无助，还有对于自己被控制的恐惧感。不管反复读这一章多少次，我都心脏狂跳，大气都不敢出！能取得成功的确很令人振奋，但是……别告诉我说这起暗杀就这么结束了吧？这得是克莱恩目前最干净利落的一次刺杀了吧？我们的主角之前从来都没打过这么容易的仗！
