NEWS1:
Wildfires that have devastated part of the Hawaiian island of Maui are now known to have killed more than 50 people. The governor of the U.S. state has warned to expect he number of fatalities（意外的的死亡事故）to rise further. Josh Green said Hawaii hadn't suffered such a deadly disaster for generations. Malika Dudley, a journalist and metrologist（计量学家） on Maui said the authorities were concentrating their efforts on those who are missing. Right now, it's really just taking care of the immediate needs of our community and our community members, trying to recover those bodies that are in Lahaina and helping to give people closure by telling them(没太听懂，欢迎补充) whether they're missing, family members have been found or not, or if they're alive or not. So, I think that they're really focusing more on that.
NEWS2:
The United States has welcomed the release of five Americans from prison in Iran. The U.S. secretary of state, Antony Blinken（安东尼·布林肯）, said he believed it marked the beginning of the end of the nightmare suffered by the prisoners who had been wrongfully detained（拘留，关押）. ？？ sent reports. Blinken wouldn't go into details of this deal, saying he didn't want to jeopardize its completion. It's understood that it will take weeks to transfer what's said to be around $6 billion in frozen Iranian assets from South Korea to the central bank of the gulf state（海湾国家） of Qatar. Mr. Blinken emphasized that the money in a restricted account could only be used for humanitarian purposes, such as buying medicine or food. Critics（批评家） including US politicians and Iranian activists in exile(流放) have condemned the deal, saying we'll only encourage Iran to keep detaining foreigners as bargaining chips（谈判筹码）.
NEWS3:
The president of Ivory Coast（Ivory Coast一般指科特迪瓦，科特迪瓦国名源于法语，意为：象牙海岸） says about 1000 troops from his country will join an international force. That's been put on standby（进入待命状态） to intervene in Niger. Alison Waterrace at the west African regional bloc ECOWAS was determined to restore Bazoum（被扣押的现尼日尔总统） as elected president who was ousted（驱逐） in a coup last month. This report from Andrew Harding. Nigeria's neighbors are looking for ways to push the country back to democracy. After a meeting of regional leaders, it was announced that a relatively small joint military force would be put on alert（同standby）. At the same meeting, Nigeria's president, Bola Tinubu（尼日利亚现任总统）, said diplomacy needed to be given more of a chance. Some will find that reassuring. There's a chance that economic sanctions（经济制裁） and political pressure on impoverished（无穷尽的）, landlocked Niger will persuade the generals there to agree to a timetable for a return to democracy.
NEWS4:
The Biden administration has asked the US Congress to authorize another $20 billion in support for Ukraine. Most of the money would be spent on military aid.
