第十节 与介词“to”连用的形容词
英语中，形容词通常与下面这些介词连用：
for, with, of, to, towards, at, from, in, on 和 about，
这里重点讨论与“to”、“of”、“with”连用的形容词。有的形容词后面可以跟不同的介
词， 有时意义相同，有时表达不同意义，这也是让学习者感到困惑的地方。
1. generous adj 慷慨；大方的。
a. be generous to somebody. 对某人慷慨。
b. be generous with something. 对某种东西或事情慷慨。
2. sympathetic adj 同情的
be sympathetic to /towards somebody. 对某人表示同情。
3. friendly adj 友好的
a. be friendly with somebody. 与某人友好。
She gets free tickets to the theatre because she is friendly with the manager.
她与剧院经理关系好，因此能够获得一些免费门票。b. be friendly to/towards. 对…友好。
c. be friendly to a cause. 赞助某一事业。
d. He’s not friendly to / toward newcomers. 他对新来者不够友好。
4. immune adj 免疫的
a. immune from. 免除
immune from punishment. 免除惩罚。
b. immune to/against disease/poison/ infection/critism/attack.
免受疾病（中毒，传染，批评，攻击）。名词“immunity”与“from”连用。
5. unknown adj 不出名的；未知的
unknown to them. 他们不知道。
6. grateful adj 感激的
be grateful to somebody. 感激的；感谢的。
名词“gratitude”后面也跟”to”，如：“ gratitude to somebody for something”。
7. kind adj 和霭的
He is very kind to animals. 他爱护动物。
8. sensitive adj 敏感的
The eyes are sensitive to light. 眼睛对光敏感。
9. relevant adj 相关的；有关的
Supply the facts relevant to the case. 提供与案件有关的事实。
名词“relevance to”。
10. respectful adj 尊敬的
be respectful to. 对…表示尊敬的/有礼貌的。
11. useful adj 有用的
He may be terribly useful to me in other ways.
他在其他方面可能会对我很有帮助。
12. thankful adj 感激的
Li says he is thankful to all the friends who reached out to help him.
李说他感激所有伸出援手解救他的朋友。
13. vital adj 重要的
the one thing really vital to them both. 对他们双方都很重要的一件事。

b. feel in one’s bones that…. 对…确有把握。
4. bonfire n 祝火；营火
We’ll either have a bestseller or bonfire. 这本书将成为畅销书或一文不值。
