With the current pandemic of COVID-19, many areas have been contaminated with the virus. Disinfection process plays an important role in curbing the spread of this virus especially in highly dense areas. The highly contagious nature of the virus poses huge risk to cleaners who perform disinfection. 

Therefore, we introduce high capability tele-operated robot to assist human in such task. XDBOT is a semi-autonomous robot, which can disinfect large surfaces quickly. The robot can be wirelessly controlled via a laptop or a tablet and it uses an electrostatically charged spray, instead of conventional pressure spray. The XDBOT has a robotic arm with six degrees of freedom, which can mimic human movement to reach awkward spots such as under tables and beds, as well as door-knobs, tabletops and light switches.

嘉宾介绍

Vasanth Elangovan is currently employed as Research Assistant in Robotic Research Centre (RRC), Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. 

He has been working in the research sector since 2018. He obtained his Bachelors of Engineering(Mechanical) and Specialization in Robotics from Nanyang Technological University in 2017, Diploma in Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering with Merit from Singapore Polytechnic. 

In August 2010, Vasanth and his team created a new record in Malaysia by creating "The Largest 1Malaysia Thumb Printing". Which is a large canvas printed with oil-based paint using thumb. Also, he with his team have participated numerous Robotics Competition ranging from National to International Stage. 

In October 2011, he and his team have been awarded Design Award and Inspire Award in First Tech Challenge (FTC) Robotics Competition in Singapore which eventually represented Singapore to the United States of America. 

In 2017, he and his team entered as finalist for the DJI RoboMasters Mobile Manipulation Challenge (ICRA, Singapore). His field of expertise is mechanical and mechanism design. 
Currently, he is acting as the Project Coordinator for the "Extreme Disinfection Robot, (XDBOT)" to solve the current COVID-19 pandemic in Singapore.
