44 Lesson 7 - Painting Combined with Photos Part 5 - Recap

 As promised. Here is our finished piece. Because my piece is a little bit longer than nineteen twenty by ten eighty is actually cutting off the sides ever so slightly.

But you will have access to this piece as JPEG and PSD files as always, I achieved everything I wanted from the get go in this piece, from a lower angle, to, including a large four grams that give us a bit of that spying on and hiding from compositions.

And by adding light that streamed onto Cinderella, we are able to give her a moment of serenity.

Even though she's doing pretty laborers work. Now let's do our recap.

Can you believe it? This is our 7th recap. We have reached like what our 5th or 6th painting of the entire course.

At this point, you're basically a PRO. So let's cover the newest topics introduced in module seven.

First things first, we discuss what it means to be painting with photographs. Now that we know how to paint and just purely paint. And we also know now how to use photographs. We can buy those two elements together to essentially create our own unique way of working. We can achieve any level of finish that we want.

If we want something more photo realistic than we know to use more photos. If you want to achieve something more painterly, then we simply go in and hand paint a lot more items.

As our industry moves forward. And we have stronger and stronger technology, it's only natural that concept art is expected to have higher and higher fidelity. It become more photo realistic.

So even in industries such as animation where it's more common to find purely painted pieces, photo bashing incorporated into painting, it's becoming quite the norm.

for our demo. We shift away from exterior and landscapes and we tackle interiors,

AKA a man made structure. to be able to properly incorporate a man made structure. We need to make sure we have the proper perspective.

I showed how perspective is the key item that makes something it feel like it really clicks into a piece, like a puzzle piece and will also look really bad and out of place. If it doesn't.

It's all about following grids. And photoshop has all sorts of neat ways to allow you to make your own grids from things like the photoshop perspective tools or prospective brushes that you can download elsewhere.

We take it a step further when we use our very own photos to create our perspective grids, because oftentimes the most daunting task is just starting the piece, but we were able to circumvent that by having a base. Or you can use it as a launch PAD to begin our piece.

This module I decided to paint Cinderella and the tang dynasty of historical China.

I begin with my perspective grids into a light sketch of the idea that I want to do. And that becomes my game plan.

Then I find all the necessary pieces I need to photo bash and used to distort transform and skew tools to go through and make a photo based stitch.

That is much more crew than my photo sketch that I did for my little red riding hood piece. However, very unfortunately, disaster struck and my pc's hard drive corrupted several files, including almost all of the original PSD files for these courses. And I found out how to start this piece from scratch.

But rather than trying to hide it or cry over it, we embraced it. And we look forward to making our piece even better than before. Because hey, stuff in life happens. And the sooner we adapt, the more fool proof our life will be.

Once my photo stitch is done, I move into doing an initial layer of shadows and darks.

Essentially the same thing as a black and white thumbnail of three values.

But since now I know exactly how I want my PC valued, I can skip the thumb nail and use this stage to foresee how to separate my values through lights and darks, turning that off.

I go and add a layer of photo texture to everything in my piece before I go in, take a paint brush and paint on Top of it myself.

Only after I finished doing a paint over, do I returned to my lights and shadows.

Now I need to accurately plot out my shadows because I'm doing them for real this time, knowing that sunlight streams in linear race, we construct our perspective grid using any two lines of her choice and plot new shadows that follow that grid accurately.

And once I decided that I absolutely hate this initial green color, I completely abandon it. goodbye for another reference image and change the color to something much warmer and brighter.

Using effects like screen and colour dodge. I added light effects as well to give our Cinderella some atmosphere before finally adding in one more layer of painting on Top and adjusting our piece using our beloved photoshop filters.

And there we have it a piece that incorporates elements of both photo bashing and painting.

45 Lesson 7 - Painting Combined with Photos Part 6 - Practice & Improveme P45 - 00:00 

 It is time for your 7th assignment. Can you believe it? We have been together for seven modules. 

P45 - 00:09第七单元的作业。 

You should know me so well by now that I should just give you this blank screen and just let you choose your own homework, except just kidding. Sorry, we're not gonna do that. I of course, still need to fulfill my role as an instructor, but I'm pretty sure that you can precisely guess what your homework is going to be. I essentially want you to do exactly what you saw me do.  

P45 - 00:31模仿我做的。 

Number one, to make sure that we practice perspective for this week. I'd like you to do a piece that incorporates man made structures such as buildings, whether it be an interior or exterior. 

P45 - 00:43外拍还是内饰展示视角线。 

And using both elements of photo bashing and painting, create your own piece. I would like to still have you pick from either little red riding hood or Cinderella. And the amount of times i've used this image of my presentation, like I think has exceeded the amount of times that I can count on my hands. The reason is because. We still need to make sure that these pieces follow some sort of guideline in terms of story, so that we can make our compositions based off of those stories in mind.

I don't want us to create a random picture just because it's pretty. we should put thought and care into pieces.

So there not just something aesthetic that we can throw out for likes, but that they have value beyond what's on the surface.

But I promise. I ll take those guidelines away soon. So just like the visual development piece with little red riding hood, show me every single step of the way.

First I want to see your personal photo that you'll be basing your perspective lines on. Then I want to see your grids.

Then I wanna see your game plan. Then I wanna see your photo stitch.

And after that, you are painting on Top, and then you're based shadows.

And finally, your finished piece.  One thing to note very quickly, when you're doing your grids, make sure that you have all of the axises available.

I want to see that you have the X axis, the y axis, and the z axis, or in other words, the horizontal axis, the vertical axis, and the depth axis.

By asking you to turn in these specific processes and steps, it will really knock that process into your brain and kind of just engrave it,

so that after you finish this class and you go off and you paint whatever you'd like, you'll know what the process is.

And you can tweak it to however much that you like. But for this assignment, because it is an assignment meant for you to improve, I want you to follow those process steps Exactly.

So recap, I want your reference, then your perspective grid, your sketch or your game plan, your photo stitch, your painting, your first class of shadows. And then of course, finally your final. need I say more and don't forget this must be a piece that includes perspective. So it has to have some kind of man made structure. It's okay if it's an extra. You're still doing buildings. Or if you don't feel that comfortable with perspective, then you do something a little bit more simple. But get into the habit of using those grids.

Dip your toes into the water, and you'll find that it's really not that scary. I'm only asking for one piece, because in our next module, we're going to be diving into some pretty wild but very fun stuff.
