一、单词记忆

初中的时候我们学过一个单词，port，名词，“港口”的意思。这个单词来自于拉丁文，portus这个单词，所以词根port也会写作portun，表示“港口”的意思。我们在这个词根前面加个前缀op表示against，“对着”的意思（比如opposite，“相反的”）。后面加个ity，抽象名词后缀（比如activity，“活动”）。所以opportunity就是一个名词，表示风正对着港口。风如果正对着港口吹的话，那么船只就可以轻松的返航，这是很幸运的事，所以opportunity的意思就是“时机，机会”。

二、单词用法

the opportunity to do sth.：做某事的机会

I had an opportunity to go to New York and study.
