BEC真题解析---原来“并购”有这么多学问？

词汇作为基础，可是BEC考试必须掌握的重点，

毕竟单词都看不懂，你做题不整个白搭了.......

今天，我们就来词汇扩充环节 ---consolidate 以及并购相关的商务问题。

先来通读下原题：We have continued to expand our network in a cost-efficient manner and have consolidated our retail section by combining our four wholly-owned retail businesses into a single operating unit.

在商业英语中 consolidate 作为动词，都有什么含义呢？

第一，巩固，加强，to make something stronger or more secure。

第二，合并，to join things together into one。这个意思在商务英语中非常多见，比如：

We have consolidated our retail section by combining our four wholly-owned retail businesses into a single operating unit.

我们通过将四个全资零售部门整合成一个业务部门，合并了我们的零售部门。

这里的 consolidate 就是“合并”，consolidate our retail section 即“合并我们的零售部门”。

相应地，consolidate 的名词是 consolidation.

与 consolidate 意义相近的词是 merger。不过 merger 更侧重“机构和企业的合并”。

比如 a merger between the two banks两家银行的合并。

并购，也就是兼并和收购，对应的表达是 merger and acquisition。
