I won’t bother going over all the details again because we all know what happened.

The Race Director had a bit of a panic and decided to introduce a new rule that he’d just thought of.

And that was that. Lewis Hamilton, the rightful winner of the race, came second.

And now it has. Because Max Verstappen won the World Championship in Japan last weekend.

That’s a fact. No arguments there.

Or are there?
在潘子以完美的表现以第一名冲过终点线的时候，他还并没有加冕世界冠军。大家都同意这一点。
When he crossed the line, in first place after a truly brilliant drive, he hadn’t won the world crown. Everyone agreed on that.
但随后，因为下了两个小时的雨，所有人又突然同意他拿下了WDC。
But then, because it had rained for two hours, everyone suddenly agreed he had.
他真的赢得了这座冠军奖杯吗？因为现在，这项运动的管理层又称潘子所在的红牛车队超了预算帽。
Or has he? Because now, the sport’s governing body says that his team, Red Bull, spent too much money building his car.

So what is the punishment? Ah, well, they haven’t decided that yet.

He may have some champion-ship points deducted. But from which year? Nope. They haven’t decided that either.

So when he turns up in Texas next weekend to compete in the Austin Grand Prix, no one will know whether he’s competing for the world crown or whether he’s already won it.

当麦克斯·维斯塔潘首次在F1亮相的时候，我们都喜欢他那活力四射的风格和那股“给爷爬”的流氓劲儿。
WHEN Max Verstappen first burst on to the Formula One scene, we all loved his exuberant style and his get-out-of-my-way yobbery.
所以尽管他身上存在着争议，当他拿下他的第一个WDC的时候我们还是蛮激动的。
So despite the controversy, we were all thrilled when he won his first world championship.
而且当他拿下第二座WDC的时候我们更激动了。
And even more thrilled when he won his second.
但之后，在上周巴西大奖赛末段的一段简短TR中，所有人突然发现潘子就是个混蛋。
But then, during one brief radio message in the closing stages of last weekend’s Brazilian Grand Prix, everyone suddenly decided that actually he was a bastard.
在马拉多纳的“上帝之手”事件之后，还没有谁能够如此迅速地从英雄变成狗熊。
Not since Maradona’s hand of God has anyone gone from hero to zero quite so quickly.
潘子当时被车队要求减速给队友让车。也算不上什么大事儿。
He was asked to slow down and let his team-mate past. No big deal.
潘子已经提前拿下了WDC，所以说他以第几名完赛都没那么重要了。
He was already world champion so it didn’t matter whether he came fourth or 14th.
但对于潘子的队友塞尔吉奥·佩雷兹来说这真的非常重要，因为他仍身处一场持续到收官战的第二名争夺战。
But it REALLY mattered to his team-mate, Sergio Perez, because he’s still involved in a down-to-the-wire battle for the runner-up slot.
而潘子说了那么多，归根结底就仨字儿：“我不让”。
And what Max said, in so many words was: “No”.
虽说有一次在摩纳哥佩大师确实没有帮到潘子，但在其它许多场合中佩大师实打实地帮到了维斯塔潘。而这一切都并不重要。
Now, there was one time – in Monaco – when Sergio really didn’t help Max but there have been plenty of other occasions when he actively did. And that’s not important.
真正重要的是潘子违背了上级的指令，并在公众眼里成了一个娇生惯养、不知善良为何物的小比崽子。
What is important is that Max disobeyed his boss and publicly came across as a spoiled, entitled brat who simply doesn’t understand the concept of kindness.
他可能自认为自己是业内最牛B的人——也的确可能是。
He may think he’s the best in the business and he probably is.
但他那辆车可比围场里其它车都要快得多得多——你即使把蕾切尔·莱利（英国益智节目Countdown主持人与数学家——译者注）塞进驾驶舱里，她也能以半小时的优势夺冠。
But that car of his is so much faster than everyone else’s you could put Rachel Riley in it and she’d still win most Grand Prix by half an hour.
