7. Matte Painting Techniques---2-1.Fuse Basics

P73 - 00:00 

 So as we all know, the big part of storytelling is creating characters. So far we did like a lot of silhouettes. We did a lot of different things. But now I think we need another additional tool that will help us to kind of skip there a lot of deep knowledge of anatomy that we need to kind of great realistic characters.

And thank god today there are so many different software that allow us to do it. So  because we are doing photoshop course mainly we will use Adobe fuse. It's a new kind of feature, new addition tool to creative cloud. So make sure you if you have a subscription to creative cloud, you can easily download the Adobe fuse CC. So let me launch this program. 

P73 - 00:50下载Adobe融合软件。 

And it's very simple very straightforward. It is so let's see how it works. So there's not too much to show, actually, in terms of technical aspect. 

P73 - 01:05技术层面没什么可分享的。 

All you need to do. So you basically can grab your character, whatever character type you won't like. Let's create a big guy, So then you need to pick up the body. Obviously, you need to pick up strongman body, let's speak strong legs and strong arms probably. 

P73 - 01:30组装上胳膊腿部。 

So this is our character. But what's good about it that you can move things around like as you want, you can create a very unique characters as well, so just by grabbing things around like making his nose bigger, stuff like that. So very useful. but what's. It's really cool that you can actually go and kind of move those old sliders and create unique looking character or you can just randomize all like and it will create different body types and stuff like that.

So I like this guy, short leg, really big dumb guy, it's very cool. But as you keep randomize ing, it will just do different variations. All you drag the slider to kind of get different variations.

it's very useful. So let’s pick up this guy. Let's make it smaller. It's almost like a character, I like it. Nice. Let's dress him up. shall we go something Like, let's make him a soldier,

It's almost like team fortress character,  And let's just keep going. Select bottoms for him. Again, if he is a soldier, he will be probably wearing this stuff. It's a nice white guy. maybe here. I don't think we need to do it. And maybe try this guy. Not bad, I’ve never seen that.  It’s a viking character. 

P73 - 03:31像是北欧海盗的角色。 

So maybe beer, That's not bad. Looks pretty cool to me. Like you can try different beards to some of them. Maybe this guy is more brutal, Otherwise he looks too much like a viking. Let's give him some gloves.  

P73 - 03:52可以加入手套。 

And what else do we have shoes? We need some shoes, So probably select something like these. So when we zoom out, he's got some really nice shoes. 

P73 - 04:09退出去,加入靴子。 

And that's pretty much it. I think the most touch, but I don't think so, maybe. let's try it on. And also like we've got some different masks and stuff like that.

So if you want to do this sort version. we will do this. But let's just leave him without a mask, That's all guys. I like him. So that's how you set up the character. And from now you can do it two ways. you can just export it as OBJ. But you could do much more powerful thing that we will do in the next chapter.

And I will show you how to do it. So that's how we create a basic character for our story.

 

7. Matte Painting Techniques---2-2.Creating a Custom Character

P74 - 00:00 

 So now we have our character. So how should we proceed? we can export this as a ODJ with this pose, but it's very kind of like, I really don't like T poses.

I love them because they have good design exercise. But there is not much of a story telling you can tell that this guy, So what do we need to do? We need action to prove him.

There is no way to pose him inside a little bit of use. But we will use another Adobe product that will us not only to pose him, but to create some really insane stuff.

So what we need to do is go over here and save to make some right. And you call him swat, whatever your character is. And we press save.

And basically what it will do. It will create your character and exporting OBG and export all the texture and open it in my example. My example was a standalone kind of package that was bought by Adobe recently.

So now if you have a subscription for Adobe creative cloud, you will have everything for Free. And it's amazing guys basically what it does. It take some characters and you can apply an infinite amount of animation state and export them as sequence and afterwards use them or just screen grab the post that you like from the view.

And because it is a 3D character, you can do a crazy amount of variations and stuff like that.

So let's see how it works. Let's see. So it's preparing model for rigger. In the second, we should be redirected to make some service.

we've got this server here, and basically it will open our characters over here, and we will all to read it and getting access to different animation of that character.

7. Matte Painting Techniques---2-3.Animating in Mixamo

P75 - 00:00 

So now we have our cool character and these guys already animated. As you can see, I can move around.

And again, take any kind of screen shot that I like for my story. So it's like a life reference for you. So we're gonna finish this one. And we will go and animate him.

So that's our character that we just created in Adobe fuse. And these are the selection of animation. Check it out. 

P75 - 00:30Adobe融合的存在动作备选。 

All you need to do is click on this animation and it will create you insane amount of different animations. For example, if this was a swat guy and I was doing a story with swartz, instead of trying to find brazilian amount of references, I will just have these guys a main reference.

So I will go to customize my pack. Basically here what you can do. You can slow down the animation.  

P75 - 00:58此刻可以减缓动画。 

This is all slow right. And now what you can do, for example, imagine if you had a story about this guy, Because you are in 3D. You can do anything you want,  and zoom in. And find any good pose that you would like.  

P75 - 01:37寻找到你喜欢的动作。 

And then just screen grab it.

Go back to photoshop. And that's your character. I know there is no lighting and stuff like that. But guys, it's a very good reference for you to start actually painting up. instead of trying to photobash, to find a soldier. And like it's always very difficult to control those. You can actually start creating your own story.  

P75 - 02:15找到角色姿势,手绘添加武器。 

And because you have one character. let's, for example, make a Top view of the guy walking of the swartz walking, right. 

P75 - 02:29俯瞰角度看角色走路。 

So you can screen grab this guy. Like if you using photo bashing technique, it's very difficult to find these kind of angles. and constructing him a death to you, whatever, like just takes ages, but here having those animations. So basically what you can do. 

P75 - 03:09动画中截图,替代照片角度。 

Take another screen grab. Go over here. So like there was a group of these guys walking. and like let's give him another animation.  

P75 - 03:38给另外一个动画截图。 

I know it's the same guy, but you got the point. If you would do like different body types and fuse, you can actually like really create insane randomness.

And also once you have a very good base and then paint the lighting.

So for example, let's. Take walking cycles. You can have one of these guys sitting there. I can imagine if there was a door. Let's pick it up. So one of the guys they’re walking towards the door, 

P75 - 05:05有个屈膝持枪姿势角色走向门。 

you've got a very nice story going on. All you need to do is just to start painting it up, Like you will have a corridor there. That would be probably some kind of door,

Let’s just screen crap a couple more of those guys. Just remove animation. So Let's make a standing guard as well.

So one of the guys will be standing over here. It's coming together.

So. Maybe you can take a couple of like running guys, So basically, what I'm doing right now, I'm trying to create a zigzag motion between these guys,

So I'm kind of using all of the knowledge from a previous lectures.  So make some of these great guys and it's insane what you can do with it. like you can assign all these different animation as you go. And of course you can export them afterwards.

I don't think it's going to be a part of this course, because I don't want to deal with other programs because it exports the FDX sequence and the unique Mile 3D max to do your stuff. But we will skip that part for now. We will just take screen grabs.

It's gonna be really cool. So make sure you check Mixamo for example To get a fuse, that's just an amazing piece of software.

7. Matte Painting Techniques---2-4.Creating a Scene

P76 - 00:00 

 So now, as we have all set up from Mixamo, let's try to integrate these guys into some kind of environment and see how flexible we can be having those 3D characters. 

P76 - 00:13角色配不同环境。 

And also kind of readjusting environment to fit it. So let's get rid of the first of this Greek kind of thing that's coming from print screens. 

P76 - 00:25从截图中选择。 

Just make this value higher. And we can quickly just separate those guys. I love like magic wand is an amazing tool.  

P76 - 00:38魔术棒是非常好的工具。 

You can quickly just get rid of this stuff. let's do it like this. And bring this guy down. So now we have this, cool setup. And we can actually start painting the background. 

P76 - 01:04开始绘制背景。 

But I always keep saying it's not about painting. It's about meeting your brief meeting on trying to get your story as quickly as possible. 

P76 - 01:15尽可能高效率讲故事。 

So what do we do? Basically, we will use some photos, but we will have a very controllable environment.

And by saying that, I mean, this photo is as a base, We can take this. These are the photos that I downloaded from the internet. 

P76 - 01:38选择一张背景图。 

So I will go over here. And copy paste my photo, 

P76 - 01:48复制粘贴这照片。 

As you can see, like this photo. It's not matching the perspective, It's a very random photo. 

P76 - 01:53这随机照片不满足视角线。 

So we can cut it out distorted it. And it's just time consuming. It's not worth doing.

I'll show you a quick method. let's say our charge is like our characters. 

P76 - 02:05简单的方法,命名角色图层。  

We'll do this one. And we will use vanishing point. So the way vanishing point is working. 

P76 - 02:10过滤-消失点。 

So create perspective, you can see the perspective and make sure if your perspective is red, it means you have your having not a proper perspective. So you need to kind of move things around. Let's see if we can find once it turns blue, then it's a good perspective.  

P76 - 02:36如果变成蓝色,就是好的视角。 

Or maybe we should actually, let me start from scratch. It was a little bit ambitious to go deeper. So basically draw the perspective that you're seeing here. So I'm seeing this kind of grade over here. So if I do that, it should create a good perspective on. Something like this, So now it's blue, which means it's a right perspective. 

P76 - 03:21蓝色消失点代表是好的视角。 

So let’s just create this. And you can always extend this way. And then we will go deeper like this. 

P76 - 03:36可以拓展深入到这一点。 

It doesn't necessarily need to be like perfect.  don’t try to get the perfect alignment. So choose a model of it. So just allow it a little bit. 

P76 - 03:48稍做调整。 

And then if you press CTRL, you will be able to get another side, And obviously you need to be on this square. I don't know if you guys seeing it, but you see there is a square beside of it. 

P76 - 04:01附近有长方形。 

So you go to this square press CTRL again. And now we have another wall. 

P76 - 04:12到长方形按ctrl另一面墙。 

And then press CTRL again, we will have this wall. And then maybe we can do it like at the end of this tunnel. 

P76 - 04:26在隧道终点结束。 

So we completed our perspective. It's not perfect, but it's not big deal. So we'll go and actually this export return 3D layer to photoshop. 

P76 - 04:35输出3D到PS。 

and then fingers crossed the press okay. And it should turn this grade into 3D space that we can travel in.  Let’s see how it goes for us. It will define the space press okay. 

P76 - 04:59新建3D场景按确定。 

So we've got our 3D space right now. All we need to do, it's a go back Inside this perspective. And now the magic starts since we having this in 3D, you can kind of do anything we want. 

P76 - 05:21这样有了3D视角线了。 

I don't know why sometimes it's inverted. Like right now, I think our world is tilted like this is the ground plane.  

P76 - 05:34像是世界倾斜的感觉。 

So what we will do we’ll go to 3D we’ll select all these guys. And then we will just rotate our everything like. I suppose like this. 

P76 - 05:54都选中后进行旋转。 

Because if I bring back the 3D ground plane.

The grand thing is not weight. So I need to rotate it like this. And now should be working, If you rotate everything like this. now we are in a proper perspective. So when we can zoom in. 

P76 - 06:37选对适当的角度,进入。 

Insiders geometry. And because we are in 3D space. So overall we will bring back our characters. And then the fun will start. So we will be able to place our environment to match these guys,  

P76 - 07:03调节3D环境来匹配角色。 

So we probably need to make our environment bigger, then we zoom in a little bit. And at any time, we can go back and select our geometry and just stretch it a little bit to make it wider.  

P76 - 07:47把几何体环境拓宽。 

maybe zoom out slightly. We can always move all those sides around. So I don't have any gaps. And overall, I feel like we need to do Is to zoom out a little bit. 

P76 - 08:19需要退出一点。 

So we're not getting very close to the stretching points than the environment. I like it because it gives you a very good control what you're doing. Like, for example, if we switch off ground plane. Show ground plane.

Imagine if they were trying to enter it. There was a door, which you can easily paint, because you're already seeing the good perspective. 

P76 - 09:10比如前面有门,比如可以进入。 

and you can change all those things pretty quickly as well. it's done. And then you can start designing of every where my characters are standing,

So because you have them on a separate layer. Take one of these guys, or like for example, let's make this story not all about them going towards the door. But they just walk in side of these tunnel or whatever it is. 

P76 - 09:49角色分开图层,陆续穿过门。 

That’s just tile these a little bit to match the perspective. So it gives you a very basic setup, but its very design driven, because it' s not exactly like 3D. we don't need to care about materials and all that stuff. 

P76 - 10:17不用像建模考虑物质。 

It's also very powerful how you can change these things. The way you can control those. And also guys, don't forget at any time, you can start painting on this textures, 

P76 - 10:32随时可以在上面再次绘制。 

Like for example, if you need something over here, you can start painting. I would say from now on, you would take this if you will flatten everything and you will start painting, actually like shadows and stuff like that, So now you will start integrating these guys inside the scene. 

P76 - 11:02绘制入阴影,角色融入环境。 

But like this is a very difficult angle, like finding reference is impossible during 3D too time consuming. But doing something like this will save a lot of time for you. So this is the kind of basic principle. I will do another example  for you when I will start from an environment.
