Part 1  Asking For Directions 

1.Most direct 

1)Where is that?

例：My ticket says platform 6. Where is that? 

2)Where do I go? 

例：I’m a new employee here. Where do I go?

3）How do I get there? 

例：I haven’t been to your house before. How do I get there? 

4）Where is the… 

例：Where is the paper for the copy machine?

2.More polite 

1）Can you tell me how to get to… 

例：Can you tell me how to get to platform 6?

2）Where can I find the… 

例：Where can I find the organic breakfast cereal?

3）I’m looking for/trying to find…

例：I’m looking for/trying to find Dr. Pepper’s office? 

4）Can you help me find… 

例：Can you help me find my classroom? It says the main building, room 324 but I’m not sure where that is. 

5）Can you point me/ Do you mind pointing me in the direction of… 

例：Can you point me/ Do you mind pointing me in the direction of the exit? 

Part 2 Giving Directions 

1.Inside a building

-Where is room 302? 

-Go up to the 3rd floor and through the double doors, down the hall, and the classroom will be on your right.

2.In a store 

-Excuse me, where can I find the organic breakfast cereal? 

-The organic breakfast cereal is over on Aisle 3, near the canned fruit, on the top shelf.

3.In a city

-Can you help me find a good coffee shop?

-To get to my favorite coffee shop, head down the street for a couple of blocks. You can’t miss it.

4.In a zoo 

-Can you point me in the direction of the elephants? 

-To get to the elephants, we need to go through the primate exhibit, then turn left at the reptile house, then loop around the safari exhibit. 

5.In a park 

-Do you know where the park bathroom is? 

-To get to the bathroom, you need to follow the trail around the park, past the splash pad, right next to the merry-go round. 

6.At a concert/ theater/ sporting event

-Excuse me, could you help me find my seat? 

-Your ticket says you are in section 105, row 12, seats J & K. So go up the ramp to 105, up the stairs to row 12, and about midway across/over the row, you will find your seats, J & K

7.On transportation 

-Excuse me, can you help me find where to go? 

-Your train is at Platform 6, so go down these stairs, turn to the left, follow the signs for Platform 6; look for train number 34.
