What will the first season be about?

第一季大概會提及甚麼?

The orientation videos and the original shorts were more intended to be about the Black Hat organization as a whole, as if it’s an introduction to the characters, and the first season will talk more in-depth about the characters, including the main crew’s backstories. Soderling (the interviewer) points out that the viewers really want to see Flug or Dementia’s backstories, and Alan says that, in that case, they’ll like the episodes.

之前的指南视频系列和17年的短片对BHO进行了一个整体的刻画，包括对每個角色的基本介绍。这一季会更深入地表現各個角色的個性, 包括BHO骨幹成員的背後故事。

訪問者(後面會稱為Q)說很想看Flug和Dementia的背後故事,Alan(後面會稱為A)說, 如果是這樣, 观众们应该會很喜歡后面那幾話。

Why is Villainous coming out on HBO Max instead of Cartoon Network?

為甚麼Villainouos是從HBOMax上映而不是CN?

It’s going to be on both platforms, but probably (Alan says “I think”, so it’s not set in stone, I guess) only in Latin America. Alan says that he really wants Villainous to come out in different countries, but it’s not up to him. It’s up to the executive decision of Warner Media.

Will there be a full episode on Black Hat?

They want to start with Flug, Dementia and 5.0.5. Black Hat will be after, since they’re saving the best for last.

Why did Black Hat free the Earth from his reign? (aka why didn’t he just rule the Earth forever after he took over it multiple times)

為甚麼BH把地球划分出自己統治的範圍? (為甚麼他統治了地球好多次也沒有管治地球)

Alan says that it’s hard to answer this question without spoilering something, but also points out that Black Hat is always looking for ways to entertain himself or any kind of challenge. If something isn’t hard for him, he just ignores it. At the moment the show is set in, he has already done pretty much everything challenging there is to do. Although Alan confirms that the BHO is another way of challenging himself to conquer the world for Black Hat.

How did Black Hat appear/come to be?
Has he been there since the birth of the universe or did he appear later?

He is the oldest of absolutely everyone, including characters we already know and will see in the future.

Do gods exist in Villainous?

作品內有「神」嗎?

They do exist. We have arcs planned with them involved, even. Alan is asked if Black Hat is older than even the gods, but Alan says that it’s too much of a spoiler to say and that Black Hat wouldn’t be happy with him if he said it. 

有神存在。A說有計劃把他們引進動畫內。A被問及如果BH是否比神要老但沒得到回答(會被劇透)。 而且說如果A回答了, BH會很不高興。

Does Black Hat have a physical heart?

BH有物理、生物上的心藏嗎?

Nobody has ever seen it, though Black Hat does have organs, which he doesn’t use. They might be human organs, but Alan says he can’t answer what kind they are. Stefan knows.

When will we see the character opposite to Black Hat?

It won’t be in the first season. This character has to do with Black Hat finding a worthy challenge for himself, and will thus most likely appear when Black Hat finally finds that challenge. Alan says we’ll learn more about this “opposite character” in the future.

第一季並不會見到。這角色將會挑戰BH, 而他的出現會讓BH感覺終於有點挑戰性了。A說將來會對這「敵對角色」有更多的了解。

Is there a character who could rival Black Hat’s strength?
有沒有角色可以跟BH較量一番?

Currently, there isn’t anyone like that. Funny thing is, though, Black Hat isn’t used to fighting anymore, since he has become a lazy businessman. The crew finds it to be unfortunate, since they want to show him in action. Alan says it’s not the time right now, since they’re, again, focusing more on Flug, Dem and 5.0.5 right now.

目前还沒有任何人可以。但有趣的是, BH自變成一個懶洋洋的大老板后就不怎么战斗了。制作组都覺得太可惜了, 因為很多人想看BH自己出手。A說還沒到時候, 所以目前他们的主要精力都放在刻画其他三位核心角色上。

Is Black Hat immortal/invincible?
BH是不是永生和無敵?

Alan answers the question with what both Flug and Dementia think: Black Hat can’t be rivaled. Though Alan also spills that Flug thinks that there has got to be something that can harm Black Hat and that maybe Flug’s theory is right. 

A沒有正面回答但是引用了Flug和Dementia对BH的想法:
BH是無可匹敵的。但A也有微微透露说Flug感覺有些東西還是可以傷害到BH, 而Flug的理論有可能是對的(未被證實)。

Can Black Hat be turned into stone and thus defeated, just like one of his clones?
BH能否好像他其中一個複製體一樣, 被石化掉而戰敗?

Alan says that it’s a good question, and says that the answer for it is a spoiler, but it is going to be uncovered soon. It won’t be in an episode, but it will be in a “surprise” the crew is working on. In this “surprise”, they are going to uncover how the clone was turned into stone and how it affected other Black Hat, including the original.

Can Black Hat break the laws of physics?

He can do things that are unexplainable, and in his territory (the manor and the Hat Island) Black Hat can do literally anything he wants, so yeah, he can break the laws of physics.

他可以做很多无法用科学来解释的事情, 也能夠在他的領域內(大宅和帽子岛)他可以任意地为所欲为。所以是的, 他能無視物理法则。

Can Black Hat read minds?
BH可以讀心不?

Yes, he can. He might’ve done so already, but we just didn’t know.

Does Black Hat watch movies?
BH會看電影嗎?

No, he doesn’t watch movies. He likes watching certain TV shows, but we’ll see it in the later episodes. Those TV shows he enjoys are pretty horrible. Also Alan says that the bit where Black Hat is watching the TV and we see what it is he’s watching is one of his favorite jokes.

What is the kindest thing Black Hat has ever done?

The kindest thing he’s ever done he does on a daily basis, since he doesn’t harm Dementia and Flug everyday.

Can you pay Black Hat with a soul that isn’t your own?

You can do that if you convince someone to give you their soul. It’s a truly villainous thing to do.

Can the people in Black Hat’s cult snap out of their hypnotized state?

For now, it isn’t possible, since the cult theme is not that well explored show-wise. Alan says that he would like to explain it further and maybe make a whole episode or spin-off about it. He also says there’s a lot of lore associated with it.

How exactly do the hats impact their victims?

The hats Black Hat gives to his cult members are quite strange, and this exact question will be answered in the “surprise”, as well as how the hat works in general.

Are the Podemos Bailar agents dead?

探員Podemos Bailar是死了嗎?

Alan can’t answer that one. We’ll see in the episodes. Though he does say to watch carefully, since in the next episodes we’ll see one of the members.

Will the Podemos Bailar and the BHO websites continue to update throughout the first season?

Maybe. Alan says to check the website on the day of the premier. (This interview is a bit outdated now, he’s talking about ep2-ep6)

Will Cooper and the Magician be in the show?

Is Aldo Maldonado alive?

Aldo Maldonado還活著嗎?

Alan says he “doesn’t know” and says that we should wait. Though he does also say that his story is one of the most important plot arcs. It’s like an introduction or a prologue to Black Hat’s backstory. 

A說他不知道並叫我們等待。A也說了他的故事是其中一個非常重要的情節, 大概是BH的背後故事。

Why is “Murcielago” one of the original codes?

為甚麼Murcielago是其中一個原生代碼?

The shorts have a lot of codes and the episodes do too. Some of them may seem pointless right now, but that’s the point, they’ll be useful later. The same kind of thing happened with Heed, since we first saw her in the pilot, when Dem was scrolling through InstaGrim and we could briefly see a comment from Heed. 

最開始的短片就有很多密碼了，正劇的劇集裡也是。很多目前看似沒意思的東西會在之後顯現出他們的用處。 Heed的出現其實就是個好例子，在殘虐的黎明那一集裡面如果你仔細看Dem快速劃過Ins評論那段，你會看到一條來自Heed的評論。

Can you share how the ARG was made?
你能否說一下ARG是如何被弄出來的?
（ARG，全称是Alternate Reality Game，就是近几年比较流行的利用现实世界来互动的游戏，最经典的就是Pokemon GO;Miss Heed和Penumbra的Instagram也是其中一種）

It was pretty hard. They had to time it all with the premier so it would be gradual. The very first secrets and codes were just links to the orientation videos and shorts. The hardest thing was to time it appropriately with the TV program so it would make sense. The plot part of the ARG and the organization of it (hints etc) was easier, since the crew already knew how to do it and what stories to tell. They did really enjoy creating the ciphers and thinking which one would be best. 

這其实还挺難。那是早就已經想好的東西但是必須得分拆出來每話透露一點。
最开始的一些秘密和代碼全都是在暗示之后的指南视频和短片们。最難的部分大概是要如何配合上電視劇集而令那些看起來能够解释得通。
设定ARG的剧情和背后的组织啊暗示之类的相對來說比較簡單, 因為整個團隊都已經知道如何去捣腾那些东西，也知道背后要讲怎样的故事了。他們很喜歡去弄這些密码彩蛋之类的，而且會讨论其中哪一个时最精彩的。

Why is Flug afraid of sandwiches?

為甚麼Flug會害怕三文治?

It’s a funny story that Alan can’t fully tell. He only says it has to do with his childhood.

Does Flug’s family know about where he’s working right now
and the fact that he went to Black Hat’s university?

Flug的家庭知道他去了BHU（BH大学）和他在哪工作嗎?

Alan says that they probably don’t know. Around when Flug was in high school, he began hiding a lot of secrets from his family, so they probably don’t know he works for Black Hat. They do know he’s a villain, though.

How did Flug find out about Black Hat?

Alan can’t answer it fully. Though this will be partially answered in one of the episodes.

Why does Flug love planes so much?

This will also be explored in the episodes, but it has to do with the planes’ abilities to fly.

Will we ever see any of Flug’s other experiments? For example, 5.0.4, 5.0.6, 1.4.1?

Is Dementia Flug’s experiment?

Dementia是Flug的實驗品嗎?

We don’t know. It’s BHO confidential information. Though he does sometimes speak with her like an experiment, since he doesn’t fully understand her, so sometimes he observes her and makes notes and stuff.

不知道, 這是BHO的機密內容。有時候F跟D說話确实是像對實驗品說話一樣的语气, 是因為他不能完全理解她, 所以有時候會用上自己對實驗品的模式對她進行觀察並紀錄下來。

How did Dementia count the amount of hatbots faster than Flug in the QnA video?

為甚麼在Q&A中Dementia計算統治世界所需的Hatbot可以比Flug要算的快?

It was a joke, but it also proves that she isn’t dumb. She might be crazy and impulsive, but she’s smart.

只是個笑話罷了, 但也是證明她不是個笨蛋。她是瘋子但她不傻。

Is Penumbra breaking the BHO rules by committing good acts?

Penumbra幹好事這點有違背著BHO的規定嗎?

This question will remain relevant throughout the series and will apply to many other characters. It’s one of the main points of the show, there can’t just be black and white, except Black Hat. It’s more up to the viewers what to label them. Alan also basically says that Black Hat doesn’t care about what Penumbra does, since he knows how to take advantage of other people’s bad decisions either way. 

這問題之後會在後面的集數內在別的角色身上顯現出來。這是作品其中一個重要的點: 這世界除了BH外, 不是非黑即白。一个角色是好是坏完全取决于观者对他们贴的标签。A也說了BH根本不在意Penumbra做甚麼, 反正他知道如何從其他人的糟糕決定中捞到好处。

What is the cactus in Heed’s instagram pictures?

That is also answered in the episodes. It might have to do with Flug’s experiments, Alan says.

Can you tell us about the crossovers?

Crossover (CN動畫作品間的互動)的事可以講一下嗎?

It was very, very fun. They tried to be very respectful of the original creator’s wishes and vision of the characters, even though they couldn’t reach everyone. Alan says that those creators probably also enjoyed their cartoons being shown in a different light like that. Many of them helped with the plot, even. Alan also really likes crossovers. 

和其他CN作品的联动非常, 非常有趣。他們試圖去尊重那些原作者的願望和他們對角色的觀點, 但他並不能找到所有主创。A說那些創作者也很高興自己的角色在別的作品中出現。其他的創作者在那幾個crossover中幫了很多, A也很喜歡這種互動。

Is Bill Cipher part of the BHO?

Bill Cipher是BHO的成員之一嗎?

This question should be asked to Gravity Falls’s creator. The reason the top hat was even included is because so many villains wear one, old-timey and new ones alike. 

這應該問Gravity Falls的創作者。那小黑帽很多反派都會戴, 不管是舊式還是新款。

How did you get the idea to create Villainous? 

你是怎樣想到創作Villainous?

Alan says that he’s had this idea since childhood, since he always liked villains better than heroes. He says that they’re richer design-wise and they have more opportunities for good, complicated backstories. He wanted better written villains, basically. 

A說自他的童年開始一開喜歡反派遠勝於英雄時, 就有這想法了。(在12月3日的旁談中也有提及到, 他的家人讓他在透視版上一格一格的畫出來, 讓他體驗到把想像中的角色「活起來」的經歷)

A說反派有更多的空間可以創作, 以及因應自身情況在他們的背景故事上可以有很多發展。簡單來說, 他想有一個故事豐富的反派。

What pieces of media inspired you to create Villainous? 

甚麼媒體讓你想創作Villainous?

When Alan was first working on Villainous, he thought that it was his own inspiration alone, but now he realizes that his crew helps a lot, as well as a lot of artists.

When it comes to media, though, he points out Marvel Comics and Doctor Doom, for Dementia specifically it’s the Joker, and the villain from the movie Clockwork Orange. Alan also says that he likes Jurassic Park and Star Wars. 

當A在創作Villainous的時候, 當初他以為自己只是在孤軍奮戰; 但之後他發現他的團隊也幫了很多, 特別是各個畫師。

A指出在威漫和Doctor Doom, Dementia參考自DC的小丑, 還有电影发条橙, 也是他的靈感來源。另外他也喜歡星戰和朱羅紀公園。

Is it hard to create such a scary cartoon on CN?

在CN上創作恐怖向的動畫是不是很有難度?

Latin American CN was really supportive of Alan’s idea, actually. In his opinion, they really needed something like Villainous after Steven Universe, since they’re practically opposites. There will never be a detailed gore scene, of course, since it’s not allowed on TV, and sometimes CN people tell them that a joke is a bit too much, but that doesn’t happen very often. 

LACN老實說很支持A的想法。他們的想法是, 很渴望在Steven Universe之後看到像Villainous這種, 兩者完全相反的作品。當然了因為電視上不允許噁心血腥向的東西, 所以在動畫中絕不可能會見到那方面的詳細埸景。當中有幾次CN的人有跟A說有些東西太過了, 但次數不多。

Does CN know about Podemos Bailar?

CN知道Podemos Bailar(西語, 翻譯為We can dace吾能為舞)嗎?

Yes, they do. It’s somewhat of a spin-off, since CN doesn’t produce it, so they don’t really care about how grim or creepy it might get. Though CN does own the Villainous main crew as intellectual property.

他們知道。因为这算是衍生创作, 不是CN所管轄的範圍, 所以他們不用擔心那上面的东西是否尺度过大或者过于阴暗。CN主要管轄的是Villainous動畫創作團隊。

Can you share an interesting fact about Villainous that nobody knows about yet?

你能分享一些目前為止也沒有人知道的, 關於Villainous的趣事嗎?

Alan talks about the creative process, saying that he likes it when the team working on the project can also give their own ideas and somehow impact the show and the universe. They have artists from all over the world, which reflects in all the new characters. On each level of the production process, they try to add something new to make it all better (Flug’s voice actor is a good example, since he does all the pet names for 5.0.5 iirc, but Alan doesn’t point it out in this interview specifically).

Alan also says that he’s flattered that Villainous has fans in Russia, even though it’s made all the way in Mexico. He says that he’d like to visit Russia someday and actually see all these fans in real life.
