Square Brackets

方括号

Ø  Use   square brackets within quotation marks to indicate material that is not part   of a direct quote.

Ø  在双引号内使用方括号表示不属于直接引用的材料。

例1：In the words of Sir William Lawrence Bragg, “The important thing in science is not so much to obtain new facts as to discover new ways [italics added] of thinking about them.”

Ø  Use   square brackets to indicate concentration: [Ca+].

Ø  使用方括号表示浓度：[Ca+]。

Ø  Use square   brackets in mathematical expressions as discussed in Chapter 11 and in   chemical nomenclature and notation as discussed in Chapters 12 and 13.
