2.Graphene Quantum Dots. An atomically-precise graphene quantum dot with bilayer stacking (structures shown in cover picture) is synthesized and monodispersed in water owing to introducing sterically hindered water-soluble functional groups. Under the ultrasonic irradiation, it can generate abundant cellular reactive oxygen species (detected as the green fluorescence of cells shown as the background of the cover picture), and thus shows excellent tumor inhibition potency. These findings demonstrate strain engineering as a reliable approach for spin manipulation in 2D transition metal dichalcogenides.

By defining plasmonic structures to confine optical power to a nanoscale volume and by employing active phase-change materials, the authors demonstrate ultra-low energy, non-volatile switching with electrical and optical readout.

The study reveals that the reorganization energies, and thus the reverse intersystem crossing rate can be controlled by the regiochemistry of the donor dendrons. They demonstrate a two-fold improved, external quantum efficiency in solutionprocessed organic light-emitting diodes.

25.Microacoustic Metagratings. In article number 2200990, Anton Melnikov and co-workers present microacoustic metagratings for passive wavefront manipulation of ultra-high frequency ultrasound. The designs are created with topology and shape optimization techniques by incorporating the thermoviscous effects, and manufactured with two-photon lithography. The successful experimental demonstration of the effectiveness of the designs opens a new route for acoustic metamaterials in ultrasonic applications with high spatial resolution.

Lithium anodes mirror the rough sulfur cathode surface, resulting heterogeneous lithium plating/stripping. Mountainlike porous lithium readily causes a lightening-like internal short circuit leading to early cell failure.

Leveraging enhanced polarization originating from the dipole coupling, the fabricated device exhibits a large memory window and nonvolatile memory characteristics with a long retention time and stable cyclic endurance, providing a promising pathway for exploring low-dimensional ferroelectronics.

Tuan, Hang Lin, and co-workers, a miniature synovial joint-mimicking system (miniJoint) is established in a microfluidics-enabled bioreactor, in which human mesenchymal stem cell-derived bone-cartilage complex, synovial-like fibrous tissue, and adipose tissue are integrated and show active crosstalk. The data demonstrate the potential of miniJoint as a new model for the study of joint pathology and the development of novel therapeutic interventions.

81.nDEL in Reversable Pharmacology. Natural product DNA-encoded library (nDEL) has great value in reverse pharmacology. In article number 2201258, Peixiang Ma, Hongtao Xu, Guang Yang, and co-workers applied nDEL in a reverse pharmacology study targeting tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α). Several natural products, particularly kaempferol are identified to recognize and attenuate the TNF-α signaling as that of adalimumab, and reduce mice ear inflammation.
