SHAW: HOPEFULLY THIS IS JUST THE START

Luke Shaw has reflected on a "special day" for everybody connected with the club, following our Carabao Cup success against Newcastle United on Sunday.

Erik ten Hag's side ran out 2-0 winners at Wembley Stadium, claiming the first piece of silverware of his tenure, thanks to two goals inside six first-half minutes.

''For me personally, it was a really special day,'' began the defender.

''We have won trophies before but for different circumstances I wasn't able to play. To play in one and win it was a really nice feeling.

''I think yesterday after the game we celebrated as a team there and in the dressing room, we enjoyed the moment.

''It's back to reality now and we have a massive game on Wednesday in another competition that we want to win. We are back in training today and are getting back to that.''

Returning to action against the Hammers in the FA Cup on Wednesday evening, it's a quick turnaround for Ten Hag's side, with the visit of David Moyes' side preceding our trip to Anfield this weekend.

''It's a credit to him [Erik] the way he has transformed the team and he has brought that winning spirit back. We as players really believe in him and we are really enjoying playing under him. Hopefully this is just the start of something special.''
