So it's always a good idea to try to find the videos that include the short interview before the performance when it comes to Singer performances because they can explain a lot. Hua Chenyu has said if you just want to sing a song, make a record. If you are going to sing it on a stage, respect the stage and give a performance. Hua Hua loves this song. It is a cover, and he's performed it in three different major performances, including this one, and he has rearranged it differently each time.

In this performance, he explains beforehand, that he went back into the pain and isolation of his childhood and young adulthood and that the screaming near the end of the piece, in particular, was something he included even though he knew it might disturb or confuse the audience, because when you are left completely alone with no one to save you, you have to save yourself, and the screaming shows the struggle he had doing that.

He is smiling as he eases out of the emotionality of the song, but puts both hands over his chest and gives the audience an “Oof. Holy crap.” look, even as he smiles at them.

One thing to keep in mind about Hua Hua, the performance isn't over until he breaks character, acknowledges the audience, and bows. Although audiences should know better by now, they often start applauding, and the camera may even briefly cut away from him to show reactions when he's just transitioning, so always make sure to keep the video going until either it stops or you know for sure he is completely done. Also if you wait until his bowing part, sometimes he does something adorable like he did after the “Jackdaw Boy” Singer 2020 performance. It is always worth it to watch Hua Hua. He is a King onstage, but when not performing he comes across differently; shy, soft-spoken, and gentle. He is also incredibly smart, deeply interesting, often funny, and always endearing. Watching his eng sub interviews are always interesting and often educational. For his age ( he just turned 30 in Feb 2020) to be as accomplished as he is, is incredible.

There are so many great songs you can watch and react to with Hua Hua. Some performances are hard to react to because they tend to get blocked on YouTube and the reactors have to jump through a bunch of hoops proving that they aren't violating copyright before they can show them freely. That is especially annoying with Hua Hua's work because reaction videos on YouTube tend to be the primary way new fans in the West get introduced to Hua Hua ( he isn't the entity making some of his stuff hard to post in reactions, btw)

Three others from Singer 2018 that people seem to be able to react to without problems, and that is also especially good are "Equal to Heaven" and "I Don't Care" (both of those are original songs he wrote. In Singer 2018 they only let the artists perform two of their original songs, the others had to be covered. They could, however, re-arrange the covers any way they chose and were encouraged to be creative about it.)Hua Hua is a genius when it comes to composing and re-arranging music. He shows this markedly in his cover of Jay Chou's song "Nunchucks". He re-invented and revitalized the song with his stellar, remarkable arrangement. I'll leave you the links to the eng subtitled versions of those 3 as well.

Hua Hua was also on Singer 2020. They changed the rules so artists could do their own music and all but two songs he does are his. It's close to impossible currently to get Singer 2020 reactions to stay up, which is such a shame because Hua Hua finds a new level in those performances and utilizes Singer's lighting and production teams to give exactly the performances that he wants the audience to see.

Just for your own self, you should watch the eng sub full episodes of Singer 2020 ( and Singer 2018, for that matter.) Hua Chenyu English Subs is a good channel to find both full episodes and single song cuts from the Singer and a great show called The Next. There is also a super entertaining variety show called Ace vs Ace that is fun and interesting to watch. Hua Hua is on seasons 4,5 of Ace ( and they are currently shooting season 6) but S. 4 doesn' t have eng subs ( all of season 5 has subtitled versions available) From your "Child" reaction, it sounded like you speak and maybe read Chinese? I'm so envious about that right now. I'm starting to learn Chinese wholly because of Hua Hua, but holy crap it isn't the easiest language to learn, is it? Aargh. Anyway...here are links.
