英语作文人工批改：The restaurant is cheap的理解问题

注意 cheap 表示“便宜的”有两个不同的用法：

▲一是表示 low in price; costing little money（廉价的；花钱少的；便宜的），此时表示用于交易的事物价格低，花钱少，即汉语的“便宜”——此用法与汉语用法相同，不会引起误解。例句如：

Clothes like that don’t come cheap. 那样的衣服不会便宜。

Buying cheap shoes is a false economy. 买便宜鞋以求省钱只会适得其反。

Customers will choose whichever product is cheaper. 哪种产品便宜顾客就会选哪种。

Nylon is cheaper than leather, and it's just as strong. 尼龙要比皮革便宜些，同时一样结实。

▲二是表示charging low prices（要价低的），此时表示与交易相关的主体收费不高，根据charging low prices这一英文解释（尤其是其中的动词charge）可知，它指某人或某机构等“要价低”——这一用法与汉语用法有些出入，容易产生误解。例句如：

a cheap hairdresser, restaurant 要价低的理发师、饭馆（《牛津高阶英汉双解词典》(第四版）

We’re staying at a cheap hotel near the station. 我们住在火车站附近一家便宜的旅馆里。（《牛津英语搭配词典》）

This is supposed to be a cheap restaurant. It says so in this guidebook. 一I daresay it does, but look at these prices! 这该是一家廉价餐馆，这本旅游指南上是这样说的——我想是的，不过看看这价目!（《朗文英语语法》）
