第十节 与汉语思维模式不一致的动词

下面要学习的动词，翻译成汉语时需要加一个介词。对学习者造成的影响是，

反过来，把这些汉语句子翻译成英语时，会习惯于在对应的英语动词后面加上

介词，这样的动词有很多，在此只列举部分。

1. justify vt 为…之好的理由；为…辩护

No cause can justify the deliberate taking of innocent life.

蓄意谋害无辜者的性命，任何理由都说不过去。

2. bet vt/vi 与…某人打赌；赌

I bet you £15 you won't chat her up.

我跟你赌 15 英镑，你和她肯定搭不上话。

3. acclaim vt 欢呼；喝彩

acclaim the winner of a race. 向赛跑得胜者欢呼。

4. scream vt 尖叫着说（某事物）

The crowd screamed its approval. 人群尖叫表示赞同。

5. yelp vt 叫喊着说

The two pups yelped encouragement to their master.

两只小狗嗷嗷叫着给主人鼓励。

6. murmur vt/vi 发低沉连续的模糊声

He murmured thanks to her. 他嘴里不停地向她小声嘟哝着谢谢。

7. shout vt/vi 大声喊

And his friend ran to meet him, all so pleasant and jolly, no dignity, shouting

explanations and apologies about the train.

他的朋友跑过来迎接他时，他高兴地忘乎所以，以致于不顾身份地高喊，火车晚点

及歉意之类的话。

8. applaud vi/vt 鼓掌

The students warmly applauded the teacher. 学生为老师热烈鼓掌。

9. feature vt 为…之特色；使（人或物）为…之特色

The hotel features a large lounge, a sauna, and a coin-operated solarium.

这家酒店的特点是有一个阔敞的大厅，一个桑拿浴室和一个投币的日光浴室

10. star vt 使（某人）担任主角或主演

a film starring Liza Minnelli. 莱萨•明妮莉主演的一个电影。

11. Emperor Napoleon III ordered the renovation of Paris under the direction of Baron

Haussmann, and the slum where Manet locate his studio was being razed(彻底破坏，

犹指被夷为平地) to accommodate（使某事物配合其他事物）the planned, broad, tree-

lined boulevards which still characterize the city.
