《驯龙高手》中维京防御塔楼的道具介绍

虽然在民间传说里大多数郡城都会在自己城邦周边建造高石墙来保护自己，但面对敌人的空袭时，这种防御策略根本行不通。艺术总监Pierre-Oiivier Vincent指出，为了表明出这个村庄正处于对飞龙戒备状态，布景的每一张照片都有防御塔或防御装置。

“尖叫维京”防御塔有两个实际用途，它可怕的外观在白天吓走飞龙，同时也是维京人力量和恐吓技艺的完美象征，到了晚上，他们还像灯塔一样毅力在岸边，嘴里闪烁着火光。

弹射器、弹弓等各种中世纪机械的例子启发了防御装置的设计，这些装置用于发射石头（有时候甚至是维京人）。

While most shires of folklore protected themselves by constructing high stone walls along their perimeter, that defense tactic simply does not work when the enemy is airborne. "To illustrate the fact that this village is on constant dragon alert, every shot of the set is meant to include a defense tower or defense contraption," notes Art Director Pierre-Oiivier Vincent.

The "screaming Viking" defense towers serve two practical purposes. Their imposing presence wards off dragons by day, standing as a perfect example of stone and scale representing the strength and intimidation techniques of the Viking people. By night they also stand as beacons along the shore by having firelight glowing in their mouths.

Catapults, slingshots, and various examples of Middle Age machinery inspired the designs of the defense contraptions, and these mechanisms are used to launch rocks (and even the occasional Viking) at their dragon argets.
