二、原文
My aunt Jennifer is an actress. She must be at least thirty-five years old. In spite of this, she often appears on the stage as a young girl. Jennifer will have to take part in a new play soon. This time, she will be a girl of seventeen. In the play, she must appear in a bright red dress and long black stockings. Last year in another play, she had to wear short socks and a bright, orange-coloured dress. If anyone ever asks her how old she is, she always answers, 'Darling, it must be terrible to be grown up!'

actress 女演员 -ess 表女性
2、She must be at least thirty-five years old.
at least 至少 反义词是at most 至多
3、情态动词must
1）表必须：
基本用法1：must表必须
基本用法2： have to 表不得不
比较：must 和 have to
must 和have to相似，可用来表达观点（表达你认为需要做或者建议某人做某事）
Ø have to (通常不用must) 用来表示某人不得不做某事，说话者不是在表达自己的观点，是客观的；
I have to work from 8.30 to 5.30 every day.
但是在书面规定、规则中，用must
Applications for the job must be received by 18 May.
Ø must 不用来谈论过去
比较: mustn’t 和 don’t have to
Ø mustn’t 表不许做（因此不做）
You must keep this secret, you mustn’t tell anyone.(=don’t tell anyone)
Ø don’t have to 不需要做，（想做也可以）
You don’t have to tell John what happened. I can tell him myself.
基本用法3： have to = have got to
注意have got to 只能用于现在，不用用于过去，如果要用于过去，还是要用have to的变形
基本用法4: must, mustn’t, neednt’
must 的否定一般不用mustn’t，而是用needn’t

2) 表推测

Ø in spite of =despite 尽管… 后接名词或代词充当让步状语
Inspite of the bad weather, they decided not to put off their trip.
though, although, even though 都是连词，也表示尽管，但后面要接句子
Ø appear on the stage as sb 登台扮演某角色
Ø as 作为介词，意思为“作为，以.. 身份”
He works as a teacher.
as 作为连词，可表示时间、原因、方式等引导不同的状语从句
Do it as I told you.
As we were having a party, the light went out.
5、In the play, she must appear in a bright red dress
in+ 衣服/颜色 表穿着 = be dressed in /wear
put on 表示穿衣的动作
The girl in red is my sister.
6、Darling, it must be terrible to be grown up.
must 这里表推测
grow up (指人，动物) 长成，长大，成熟 只能做不及物动词，强调结果
be grown up 表示长大成人
grow单独使用表示 (指人，事物)生长、发育、成长 - 可做及物和不及物动词，强调过程
grown up 这里是形容词，长大成人的，也可作为名词，代表大人, 通常这样是从小孩子的视角说话
I don’t want to sit with grown-ups, I want to go and play with the other kids
“I’m scared, Dad.” “Yes, I know, and sometimes grown-ups get scared and worried too, you know”
