It is true that presently there are some controversies in the purpose of foreign language studying.

While it seems natural to some people that travelling or job-seeking tend to be the sole reason, I would argue that historical and anthropological research are also crucial reasons for learning a foreign language.

 

1,Some people who are in favor of learning language for travel and work purpose base their ground on the fact that language is just a tool for their personal development,.

2,That is to say,/ This means that mastering a foreign language is extremely helpful during trips abroad.

3,When travelling overseas, communicating with local folks with their language fluently is more likely to generate a genuine and immersive experience.

4,Besides, for job-seekers, a sharpened foreign language skill serves as a weapon to win the potential recruitment opportunity since nowadays an international language such as English, has already been incorporated into daily work   

5Computer engineers, for example, rely heavily on English to accomplish various sorts of programming and update their knowledge continually.

6, Consequently, those who could combine the expertise learned in mother country with a foreign language could gain more access to international openings and quickly adapt to the new job environment once being hired .

 

There are, however, more intellectual reasons we shouldn't neglect.

For historians and archeologists who research a foreign country’s history, directly reading the original works is a vital and inevitable part for the truth that language is more than just a way to communicate .

Specifically , language is also an integral part of its native speaker’s culture and civilization ,and there are unique cultural features hidden in words and phrases in oral or written forms of minority languages.

In addition, certain characterizations of a language may help decode the mystery of its native people's settling patterns or migration routes.

Recent studies show that, in ancient time, when different tribes of people were geographically close, certain language integration could took place with some languages borrowing words or phrases from others.

In short, by comparing different languages, we are able to discover those clues uncovered in languages as potent evidence of possible migration tracks of its speakers.

 

In conclusion, I believe that travelling or employment is not the sole aim for foreign language studying.

Instead, language also acts as a useful tool in learning a foreign country’s history and helps demystify the anthropological myth of its native speakers.
