Do Without Regret
Dear judges and teachers, I’m Chloe. It’s my honor to stand here, making the speech, whose topic is “Do without regret”.
Sometimes, we will decide to start a journey or meet a challenge. But even though we try our best, we are still likely to fail to achieve what we desire. In the 2022 Women's Basketball World Cup, though injured, the twelve players from the Chinese women's basketball team didn’t flinch in the face of the strong opponent, the American team. But they still lost the game.
It seems no matter how hard we have tried, we still may not be able to make it. Some people may say,“If so, what is the significance of efforts?” In my opinion, trying to do something is to leave no regrets.
Last September, I hurt my knee and stopped running for three months. When starting to practise the 800-meter run, I felt discouraged because I almost missed all the important training. But soon I made up my mind and practiced harder than others every day. Finally, I ran the fastest in the test although not getting a full score. I didn't feel upset because I knew I had done my best. I still remember the tearing pain and the powerlessness in my thigh in the sprint practice, as well as the bitterness when sweat slipped into my mouth. But if I hadn’t tried my best, I wouldn’t have got where I was. That’s why we should still try hard even if we mayn’t get the most satisfactory result.
In fact, it is those firm efforts people make that make human history. Without black people’s constant struggles, their generations couldn’t sit beside white people. Without those pioneers’ brave tries, there wouldn’t be self-built railways and atomic bombs in China. Without those medical workers and volunteers’ joint efforts, the COVID-19 wouldn’t be in control. It was every hard try and fight that contribute to human progress.
As Chairman Xi said, “Struggle is the brightest color of youth and action is the best trial for young people." Therefore, we should be the pioneers of our times, who dare to think and try.
That’s all, thank you for your listening!
