英语近义词辨析（3）

concentrate,center,focus 这组动词均含有“集中”之意。其用法区别是: 

concentrate表示“吸引到(固定在)一个中心之上”;通常用作及物动词,宾语可以是具体事物,也可以是抽象事物;在作不及物动词时,作“集中注意力思想等”解。如: 

The general decided to concentrate his forces near the capital.这位将军决定把他的部队集中在首都附近。 

I can't concentrate when I am hungry.当我饿时就无法集中精神。 

center作及物动词或不及物动词。强调事或物所集中的那个中心点 ,如: 

The discussion centres round the problems the broad masses of the people are concened about most.讨论集中在广大群众最关心的问题上。 

The topic today centers about the crisis in the Middle East.今天课题的中心是宁东危机。

focus作及物动词和不及物动词。意为“焦点，几条光线或其它射线相交的一点”;强调同类事物汇集到一点上，融成一体。如: 

They focused all their attention on finding a solution to the problem.他们集中全部注意力寻找解决问题的办法。

He focused his mind on his lessons.他把注意力集中在他的功课上。
